Placido Domingo was roundly and vociferously booed at the Metropolitan Opera House on Tuesday evening.
Take a moment to let that statement sink in.
The occasion was the one and only appearance of Anna Netrebko as Mimi in the Met's current run of Giacomo Puccini's "La Bohème."

The world of opera has a major star in 35 year old Russian soprano Anna Netrebko, who began her operatic career cleaning the floors at St Petersburg's Mariinsky Theatre (home of the Kirov Opera), where she attracted the attention of conductor Valery Gergiev.

Yes.
But he wasn't letting Netrebko sing in a flexible style; he was setting a pace for the orchestra that was inflexible, and not cooperating with the singers.
He received a lesson not to phone it in.

That's terrible that La BoHEEEme is irreversibly tagging in my mind to Winthorpe also. :)

Placido Domingo was roundly and vociferously booed at the Metropolitan Opera House on Tuesday evening. When GWB threw out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium, shortly after 9/11, one of the Yankees players warned him that if he threw the ball in the dirt, he'd get booed. Never mind who he was or what the occasion. So he was seen in the practice cages before the game making sure he could make a clean throw.
I don't know if New Yorkers invented the phrase "tough crowd," but they certainly perfected it.

Yes indeed confusing. Reads like an opera play by play call.

When GWB threw out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium, shortly after 9/11, one of the Yankees players warned him that if he threw the ball in the dirt, he'd get booed. Hillary got booed by New Yawkers for something after 9-11. Being the forgiving crowd they are, they edited the soundtrack so future generations won't know that they didn't adore her that day.
