CHERRY TREE, Pa. — In this tiny community of clapboard houses nestled along the banks of a Pennsylvania river, many residents own guns for hunting or self-defense.

But a local councilman, inspired by steps taken by an Idaho town, has proposed an ordinance that recommends all households keep the weapons and ammunition to ward off would-be burglars and prevent crime from creeping into the area.

Some of us are way ahead of you.

Catron County, N.M., which pioneered local land-use planning against federal control of public land, has passed a resolution urging every household to own a gun. September 19, 1994

All responsible adults should own guns. Let's hope that no one in that town is a regular at DU.

Franklintown, York County PA, went one step farther over a decade ago by passing an ordinance REQUIRING every homeowner to have a firearm. Never really enforced.

"Diane Edbril, executive director of the gun-control advocacy group CeaseFirePA, said that "increasing the number of households with firearms will only increase the number of tragedies involving firearms in that community."

Yo', Diane, let me explain something to you. Most homes in these parts have guns and have had guns since people could afford to own them. There is very, very little gun crime but I'm sure that there are more than a few in each neigborhood than can shoot a fine group at a 100 yds.

We moved here from Calif almost 2 years ago. Was able to purchase a home on an acre for half what we paid in CA on like 1/8 of an acre.

I've observed the unemployment rates are low.

Cool!! Cherrytree is in my county! Indiana County is a Red county in a blue state!

Makes me believe there might be some hope for Pa yet. (but don't hold your breath!)
