COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Authorities released a frantic 911 call made by a storeowner who shot and killed a man attempting to rob his tire store Tuesday night.

Police said the shooting doesn't appear to be murder, but rather self-defense, NBC 4's Lauren Diedrich reported.

Police said Arfan Midani, the owner of A&A Tires, was working Tuesday night when an armed man approached him and demanded money.

The two men struggled and Midani gained control of the gun and shot the man twice in the stomach and once in the leg, police said.

Anthony Lewis was taken to Grant Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

On Wednesday, authorities released a recording of the 911 call made by Midani after the shooting.

"I shot him," Midani told the dispatcher. "I shot him, yes, he put a gun to my head."

The dispatcher then told Midani that help was on the way.

"He's bleeding, help him out please?" Midani asked.

The dispatcher then asked Midani where the man was wounded.

"Where's he bleeding from?" she asked.

"I think I shot him in the leg," Midani said. "I don't know."

Investigators said it appeared that Midani was defending himself and said charges would not be filed against him.

"Everyone has the right to defend themselves if they feel they are in a situation where that type of action is required," said Columbus police Sgt. Christ Holzhauser.

All the wounds could have happened while they were wrestling over the gun.

A very reasonable and proper decision by the Police. Sanity is alive and well in Columbus.

With a name like "Christ", who is going to argue with him?"
