Since McCain is obviously running for the presidency, this forces others running to triangulate where they are going to line up. In that sense, it's helpful as an antidote to the "retreat now" defeatists who hold so much sway in the MSM in the US Congress now.

"Tenuous" is a polite word. Sunnis and Shiites would still be shooting it out across the world if Israel never existed. Israel is always blamed for every ill in the Middle East. Most Muslim murder victims are killed by Muslims and most Israeli murder victims are killed by Muslims.
