It is not the fault of Jenna or Barbara Bush that their father, the president, has gotten us into a war that he doesn't know how to get us out of. And, although you can blame parents for almost anything, George W. and Laura Bush are no longer responsible for the behavior of their twin daughters, who are in their mid-20s. Presidents, like the rest of us, don't get to choose their relatives. Remember Billy Carter?
Anyway, Jenna and Barbara are far from George W. Bush's biggest familial problem. The law of averages has given him at least one ne'er-do-well brother -- Neil. The biggest familial thorn in the president's side is probably his father, always ready (or so it seems) to send out a Brent Scowcroft or a James Baker with some patronizing and excruciatingly public advice for the young pup.

He does get one thing right though ... He says, "So it would appear that George W. Bush's daughters are not Amy Carter or Chelsea Clinton or Karenna Gore. So what? Are you surprised?"
No, Barbara and Jenna bear no resemblance to the above mentioned daughters...thanks be to God!
"But no amount of eloquence can overcome the bald contrast between that rhetoric and how his own family lives. His daughters are over 21, and he can't control them, but that doesn't let them off the hook. They are now independent moral actors, and their situation requires that they either publicly oppose their father's war or do something to support it. Is it unfair to expect Jenna and Barbara to shape their lives around their father's folly? Of course it's unfair. If this is war, then unfairness comes with the territory."
Yes, Michael, I sure do remember all that public opposition (or was it support?), by college-age Chelsea with respect to Bubba's war in Kosovo.
Flaming libbie hypocrite.
Kinsley wrote a similar article for The Guardian's "Comment is Free" page a couple of days ago. He was thrashed by nearly every one of the commenters -- including the leftists.
Er, if their situation "requires" it, then they can hardly be said to be "independent moral actors".
Liberals are unaduterated evil; however, Bush and the Rep. House have been the weak spot in conservative armor which allowed socialism to again reign in American government.
The 2008 election isn't looking good for America, either. I fully expect the Republicants to nominate McCain as a means to win an election, rather than doing what is best for the United States.
He's a slimy little beetle.
Well, what brought this on?
Kinsley should really be ignored, but the Dallas Morning News used almost an entire editorial page to print this trash today and it infuriated me.
I do remember a few drunk Chelsea pics, but only in the Globe and such tabloids.
I guess Al and and John and Hillary better get those kids out there ane have them enlist if they want to run for POTUS again, right?
Yeah, this was pretty indefensible, although I'm surprised that the leftists didn't like it.
I know we all miss Amy Carter and her wise counsel on nuclear arms.
I think pictures are required.
Wasn't there some story about Jenna and Barbara being at a restaurant in Brazil and one of them had her purse stolen?
I guess Michael translated restaurant dining into partying all night and ... anyway, why aren't they on the front lines like all the other Presidential daughters?
There was a picture with the huge story in the DMN, but I, unfortunately, am one of the ignorant few on FR who hasn't bothered to learn how to post pictures.
But I agree with you, pictures of those beautiful girls are always welcome.
I think Chelsea did visit the troops somewhere in the Balkans with her mother at one point, but I don't think she was called to publically support or oppose our military actions in Kosovo. Like Chelsea, we don't really know what Barbara and Jenna may have done or may be doing behind the scenes regarding anything going on with their dad's administration. All three wanted/want the press to leave them alone, but only Chelsea seems to get a pass from Michael for this.
I guess Kinsley never got to see the pictures of Chelsea bombed out of her mind, huh?
If this is War, Kinsley is treasonous. And the consequences should be completely fair.
I just fired off a couple of lines to him which I cannot post here.
