Corzine vows to share property tax aid with renters and the poor
The Star Ledger ^ | Wednesday, December 06, 2006 | SUSAN K. LIVIO

Renters earning less than $50,000 will share in the same property tax relief package homeowners are expected to get in the next year, Gov. Jon Corzine said yesterday.

Corzine, speaking at an anti-poverty forum, also said he would support expanding the state rental assistance program and consider limiting how often affluent communities may sell off their legal obligations to build affordable housing in cities strapped for cash. Without rental subsidies and more housing opportunities in suburbs closer to jobs, thousands of people will continue to struggle, he said.

This is yet more socialist wealth redistribution. Renters don't pay property taxes.

I would say that people in New Jersey deserve what they get, but no one deserves socialism.

Hahaha to NJ residents who voted for this buffoon - he gets his tax increases and immediately figures out how to give more handouts.

Why not just do away with private land ownership and provide State housing for all. I mean it's worked so well wherever it's been tried.

I think that's what they are trying to do.

Frog in the pot of water sort of thing.

Renters don't pay property taxes.

Not directly, but if I (the landlord) did not have to pay them I could either net more (taxable) income or offer lower rents, depending on the demand in the local rental market.

You are correct. I am a landlord and pay approximately $16,000 in property taxes for my two family and residence.

Also the Town of Hackettstown recently enacted an ordnance requiring all landlords to pay $120 per unit, per year to inspect the property. Will we have to give back money to illegals living in the apartments too?

BTW we do not rent to illegals aliens.

This is yet more socialist wealth redistribution. Renters don't pay property taxes.

I would assume that the property taxes are an included portion of the rent they pay.

You're right, indirectly renters pay the tax, eventually. But as property taxes rocket up, landlords have a hard time pushing the rent up to keep pace, and where there is rent control, the landlord often has to eat the increase.

Before long he'll have driven all the high earners out of the state and then he'll have nothing to redistribute.

We have been eating tax increases for years. This year is the first year that we do not have a negative cash flow on the property. Last year we installed all new windows, new appliances and a new roof....cost $18,000. We try to keep our property in tip top condition to discourage "rif raf" renters.

Thanks for putting it on the main board. This man is out of control with the redistribution.

He has no way to pay for any of this other than tax increases and more tax increases.

I disagree. Anyone who is stupid enough to support socialism all of their lives after seeing it fail over and over again deserve everything they get. The biggest problem is that after the've turned their pi$$ing ground into a hell hole they go somewhere nice and screw that place up too. (see North Carolina)

I left the rathole in June.

My property taxes were over 13k and rising. And they wanted to take more.

"BTW we do not rent to illegals aliens."

Careful, alice, Big Brother is listening. You have the right to remain silent but anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law (Miranda). I believe in my left coast state such an admission would be considered a crime.
