Our Golden Retriever used to do this, and sometimes we had a trick called "Walk the Girl" where he'd take my hand in his mouth and lead me someplace. He was a great dog. He's now over the bridge.
My rott shows very little interest in doing this. She's all business on walks (except when she wants to run and romp when the moon is full, no lie.)
