MILWAUKEE - An explosion and three-alarm fire have been reported at the Falk Corporation, 3001 W. Canal Street in the Menomonee Valley. Smoke is heavy and crews are on the scene. Authorities are reporting several buildings on fire.
Reports are that one building collapsed and another is in danger. Large chunks of one roof are falling off. The explosion could reportedly be felt for miles. Twenty to thirty people may have been injured. Falk Corporation is a global manufacturing company headquartered in Milwaukee. The company was founded in the 1840's.
Grrrrrr. Grind the tank to powder, soak the powder in liquid oxygen, and add a lit match...

We only do that when there aren't...
(Dude! The democrats are in charge, there are no more terrorists or homeless!)...
WTMJ TV reporting that WTMJ 620 AM radio is reporting that MFD is reporting the sighting of two fatalities in the wreckage.
THIS IS UNCONFIRMED.
I'm just reporting what the MSM is reporting.
Hopefully this is just the media passing on second hand info.
I've seen local media pass on alot of bad info before.
Just getting to this thread now. I've been in a meeting all morning. The sight from the freeway was pretty incredible. You could see right down into the fire.
Do you happen to know if this plant provided critical war materials?
This one burned all night even though it started at about 4pm. It sounded like downtown Baghdad several times overnight.

Falk makes large gears.
Much of their production goes into mining equipment. Milwaukee makes most of the world's large mining shovels and draglines.
Per WTMJ 4 TV the Medical Examiner will not confirm any fatalities until 11:30 am CST.
Waiting until examiners can physically approach apparent victims per local media.
Prayers......
Thanks for the link - we have no real heavy industry here in Alaska (Come and visit for the clean air!) but do have a lot of building fires - esp in the winter.
Intertesting job the AFD has - when it is below zero.
2 unconfirmed fatalities.
25 admitted to area hospitals.
Only most severe injuries admitted to Freodert.
Others sent to other hospitals.
I know Falk. I've designed with and used their power transmission products for thirty years. Their reputation in the industry is legend...
Thanks

No clue as to the short/long term impact on industry of this event.
The giant gears must have a huge lead time and this event could have a ripple effect on many other industries.
The recovery of operations may not be the sexiest media story, but is one very important to the employees and customers of FALK.
FALK employees have just been released by Milwaukee Police after being held for interrogation. They were sent to Miller Park and then detained by MPD for questioning.
The FALK employees are now free to return home per local media sources.

I wonder how much of their work was done at this location. They also have that large plant that's right next to the freeway up by Capitol Drive.
I just noticed on the TV that there are several trucks from JM Brennan contractors in the blast area where firefighters are concentrating their search.
Outsiders are much more likely to have difficulty in finding escape routes.
