I noted several companies advertising some sort of power backup for cell phones. I haven't had a chance to look into them to see if they would be worth carrying, does anyone have experience with them?

I just take a 12 volt cell charger with me and also have a jump start unit in case the car battery is discharged. When going off-road I take two separate jump start units!

My mom has one... she's showed it to me at least four times (ah the joys of getting older, I probably tell the same story multiple times too). The devicee uses AA batteries and plugs into the charge connection. That is another good idea. I need to make a list from this advice.

Meanwhile, another prayer for James Kim.

My kids bought me a flashlight that has a crank to energize it, it also has a plug in for my cell phone. So I can have light and phone home, haha. I think you can get them at Sharper Image.
