Look they filibustered it and Chaffee refused to grant him a vote on the floor out of committee.

I think they fought very hard, but the handwriting was on the wall. I posted the following on another thread:

Bolton's leaving could be a blessing in disguise. Bolton was the only thing that gave the UN any credibility at all. Notice how relatively muted the calls were during the past year to "get US out of the UN"? That's because we at least figured there was a genuine reformer and watchdog on the premises.

With Bolton gone, the place can be viewed once again as the same old corrupt and useless laughingstock it always was. It's time to get back in the politicians' faces and demand that America dump the scumbag United Nations and send every p.o.s. in the place back to wherever they came from.
