Bush accepts Bolton's U.N. resignation

By TERENCE HUNT, AP White House Correspondent 12 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Unable to win Senate confirmation, U.N. Ambassador John Bolton will step down when his temporary appointment expires within weeks, the White House said Monday. ADVERTISEMENT

Bolton's nomination has languished in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for more than a year, blocked by Democrats and several Republicans. Sen. Lincoln Chafee (news, bio, voting record), a moderate Republican who lost in the midterm elections Nov. 7 that swept Democrats to power in both houses of Congress, was adamantly opposed to Bolton.

Critics have questioned Bolton's brusque style and whether he could be an effective bureaucrat who could force reform at the U.N.

President Bush gave Bolton the job temporarily in August 2005, while Congress was in recess. Under that process, the appointment expires when Congress formally adjourns, no later than early January.

The White House resubmitted Bolton's nomination last month. But with Democrats capturing control of the next Congress, his chances of winning confirmation appeared slight. .....

Critics have questioned Bolton's brusque style and whether he could be an effective bureaucrat who could force reform at the U.N.

What this really means is that Bolton refused to maintain the fiction that the UN, the great secular humanist dream, is an institution for peace, that actually contributes to the peaceful resolution of conflict.

We, the American people, can thank the Republican Congress and Administration for this. They delivered Congress to the very dangerous Democrat Party on a silver platter in 2006 and have further endangered the United States and the American people by inceasing the possibility that the Democrats can seize the Presidency and the Congress in 2008.

Had the Republicans in Washington

1. Closed the Mexican Border and halted illegal immigration,

2. Nullified the Supreme Courts indecent Eminent Domain decision, and

3. Halted--instead of expanding (e.g. prescription drug benefits)--government spending and increased entitlement programs,

They would have increased the Republican majority in Congress in 2006 and assured a Republican Congress and Presidency in 2008!

Their failure to do so is inexcusable.

Now, thanks to Republican foolishness, the United States is under the control of reckless Leftist fanatics, and the American people have every reason to be afraid.

9/11 was never repeated because of President Bush and his expert and vigilant leadership, and his tax cuts stimulated the U.S. economy and brought it to new heights of prosperity. For this he is to be commended.

He is also to be commended for remaining steadfast under the relentless and unprecedented barrage of criticism and brutal, mendacious, reprehensible propaganda from the Left, its political machine (the Democrat Party), and its propaganda machine (the "Mainstream Newsmedia"), which is no doubt, in part, responsible for some of the misguided decisions that helped deliver Congress to the Democrats.

However, his words notwithstanding, his actions have demonstrated that he has no intention of closing the Mexican Border or halting illegal immigration or of curtailing runaway government spending.

The best that can be truthfully said about the Republicans at this point is that the Democrats are infinitely worse.

The Left--which is decadence--and which is the enabler of America's enemies, both at home and abroad--is the greatest danger to the American people, the U.S.A., and Western Civilization today, and the Democrat Party is its political arm. To have Democrats in control of the U.S. is the most dangerous event that could happen, and the Republicans are responsible for the Democrats' seizure of Congress.

We can only hope that responsible people take control of the Republican Party--and fast!

If Democrats seize Congress and the Presidency in 2008, the American people and the U.S.A. will be in very serious danger--in greater danger than they are today!

Just heard about this.

Lots of bad news today.

WashTimes article on immigration (congress going to make citizens out of illegals).

Snowe and Rockefeller letter to ExxonMobil about global warming (now we have 2 thugs in the Senate). In the WSJ.

If we absolutely need to have someone there, and I would rather we didn't, Miller would be a decent choice. One that would make the Dems regret opposing Bolton, however, and which would create a possible Presidential candidate...UN Ambassador Rick Santorum.

Sorry about the hashed metaphor, but somehow its disarray seems to demostrate something about the subject itself.

"Whiner conservatives who didn't vote...the cause of Bolton's resignation."

BS! Nancy girl, RINO, Republican "leaders" who were exposed as unprincipled, narcissistic, hacks, who lost part of the base and much of the independent "values voters" by their pathetic incompetence and corruption are the cause of Bolton's resignation and, sadly, much more.

Wrong Ohio senator. It was George Voinovich, who is raising money for his 2010 campaign.

Well, that's what happens when you will not COMPROMISE on anything.

I hope all you "real, true" conservatives are happy out there in oblivion.

Critics have questioned Bolton's brusque style and whether he could be an effective bureaucrat who could force reform at the U.N.

Interpretation:
Critics were concerned that Mr. Mr. Bolton would not properly kowtow to the corrupt bureaucrats at the UN and might actually force reform.

conservatives alone couldn't get a candidate elected to a city dog catchers job

That is something a lot of people around here so consider long and hard.

The Republican Party had a chance over a 6 to 10 year period and blew it.

Because they pandered to the "real, true" conservatives -- and this country is, as you stated, not made up of enough of them to get anybody elected.

"Compromise" is like kryptonite to the right wing of this party; see the results?
