Congress Open to Passing Bill on Immigration (Citizenship for 20 million illegals!)
The Washington Times ^ | December 4, 2006 | Charles Hurt

Congress will approve an immigration bill that will grant citizenship rights to most of the 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens in the U.S. after Democrats take control next month, predict both sides on Capitol Hill. While Republicans have been largely splintered on the issue of immigration reform, Democrats have been fairly unified behind the principle that the illegals currently in the country should get citizenship rights without having to first leave the country.

Ohio is part of the rust belt. Its economy is suffering across the board. Comparing the 1990 census to the 2000 census, the number of foreign born residents of Ohio increased from 255,129 to 339,645, a relatively small increase compared to California. The biggest group came from India with Mexico second.

In California, the foreign born residents increased from 6.4 million to 8.8 million and the number of Mexican born increased from 2.4 million to 3.9 million. Hence 1.5 million of the 2.4 million increase came from Mexico. About one in four Californians are foreign born.

Mexico alone accounted for 43 percent of the growth in the foreign-born population of the US between 1990 and 2000. This continues a long-term trend: In 1980 Mexico, already the leading sending country, accounted for 16 percent of the foreign-born population. The trend of declining diversity goes back even farther; in 1970 the top sending country was Italy, and it represented only 10 percent of the foreign born. At the state level, Mexico was the largest sending country in 18 states in 1990; by 2000 it was the top sending country in 30 states.

The Mexican invasion is metastasizing around the country. For example, the Mexican born residents of North Carolina increased from 8,751 in 1990 to 179,236 in 2000. In Arkansas, the number went from 2,931 to 31,422. In Colorado from 32,712 to 192,427. In Georgia, from 19,748 to 196,011. And these are census figures, which are notorious for being understated when it comes to the illegal population who won't compy.

Where Immigrants Live An Examination of State Residency of the Foreign Born by Country of Origin in 1990 and 2000

We can't continue to take in these huge numbers of self-selected immigrants, the vast majority of whom are the poor and uneducated of Latin American. During the 1990s, an average of more than 1.3 million immigrants — legal and illegal — settled in the United States each year. Between January 2000 and March 2002, 3.3 million additional immigrants have arrived. In less than 50 years, the U.S. Census Bureau projects that immigration will cause the population of the United States to increase from its present 300 million to more than 400 million. Some factoids from US official census data:

The 35.2 million immigrants (legal and illegal) living in the country in March 2005 is the highest number ever recorded -- two and a half times the 13.5 million during the peak of the last great immigration wave in 1910.

Between January 2000 and March 2005, 7.9 million new immigrants (legal and illegal) settled in the country, making it the highest five-year period of immigration in American history.

Nearly half of post-2000 arrivals (3.7 million) are estimated to be illegal aliens.

Immigrants account for 12.1 percent of the total population, the highest percentage in eight decades. If current trends continue, within a decade it will surpass the high of 14.7 percent reached in 1910.

Of adult immigrants, 31 percent have not completed high school, three-and-a-half times the rate for natives. Since 1990, immigration has increased the number of such workers by 25 percent, while increasing the supply of all other workers by 6 percent.

Immigrants were once significantly more likely to have a college degree, but the new data show that natives are now as likely as immigrants to have a bachelor's or graduate degree.

The proportion of immigrant-headed households using at least one major welfare program is 29 percent, compared to 18 percent for native households.

The poverty rate for immigrants and their U.S.-born children (under 18) is 18.4 percent, 57 percent higher than the 11.7 percent for natives and their children. Immigrants and their minor children account for almost one in four persons living in poverty.

One-third of immigrants lack health insurance -- two-and-one‑half times the rate for natives. Immigrants and their U.S.‑born children account for almost three-fourths (nine million) of the increase in the uninsured population since 1989.

The low educational attainment of many immigrants and resulting low wages are the primary reasons so many live in poverty, use welfare programs, or lack health insurance, not their legal status or an unwillingness to work.

A central question for immigration policy is: Should we allow in so many people with little education, which increases job competition for the poorest American workers and the size of the population needing government assistance?

Immigrants make significant economic progress the longer they live in the United States, but even immigrants who have lived in the United States for 14 or 15 years still have dramatically higher rates of poverty, lack of health insurance, and welfare use than natives.

States with the largest increase in immigrants are California, Texas Georgia, New Jersey, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Washington, Virginia, Arizona, Tennessee, Minnesota, Nevada, New Mexico, South Carolina, and Mississippi.

Immigration accounts for virtually all of the national increase in public school enrollment over the last two decades. In 2005, there were 10.3 million school‑age children from immigrant families in the United States.

Immigrants and natives exhibit remarkably similar rates of entrepreneurship, with 13 percent of natives and 11 percent of immigrants self‑employed.

Recent immigration has had no significant impact on the nation's age structure. Without the 7.9 million post-2000 immigrants, the average age in America would be virtually unchanged at 36 years.

Nobody on these threads is doing that, so knock of the hyperbole.

Why, one just did. A house divided against itself cannot stand. Even an idiot knows that.

You know damn well I am; and it was extremely out of place for you to ask ANY Freeper that.

You didn't answer my question. Can you tell me what you think I mean by it?

"Freepers" are exempt from questions about statements indicating their interests in favor of or against the unity of our nation?

What is an anti-revolutionary?

It is obviously in the interests of our nation that it not be broken up into squabbling factions attending to their own interests and not that of the nation. I don't "decide" that; it's a simple maxim. A house divided against itself cannot stand.

Let me clue you in Willie...the beauty of this country is that no one gets to tell me what to think, and we all get an equal voice in deciding what is in her best interest.

Let me clue you in Louis. . . the beauty of this country is that everyone gets to point out nutball ideas destructive to the people who are citizens here and are invested in the nation.

You get to say what you want and I get to tell you are full of shit. Quid pro quo.

It's worthy to note, though, that in this post you have called me "Fidel" and accused me of being a dictator. All I said was that you champion ideas and actions that will destroy the nation. It's been my experience that those who know they're in the wrong, but their self interests are too strong, tend to get nasty when the truth is pointed out.

It the shoe fits, wear it and acknowledge the wearing.

Returning to add another quip is the surest sign that your goat was got.

Running just frames it for mounting...

Howlin? My rough count of yahoos who think Republicans are RINOs unless they are dragging their knuckles remains at about 10% of the board and 90% of the ignorance...which means that Republicans who can think are a distinct minority here.

And, here I thought NO Pubbies could think! (Smile, grin, chuckle, burp.)

The biggest of all nutball ideas ever brought forth on this nation, was that man could self-govern.

So far, it's worked out.

P.S. You don't "know" what ideas will or will not destroy the nation, what I do know, is that the obstruction of the free flow of ideas will.

"A house divided against itself cannot stand."

So, you don't agree with the Founders then?

Self government starts with respecting a nation's borders. If a man break that with no thought, simply to get something not available in his own country due to his lack of guts to make his leaders self govern, it is a cinch he will also lack the guts to make his new leaders self govern. We don't need more of those.

You don't "know" what ideas will or will not destroy the nation, what I do know, is that the obstruction of the free flow of ideas will.

You mean the free flow of, not ideas, but people who believe as you do, don't you? Ideas are not trying to break into this country. I know that there is a self-evident truth and that is a house divided cannot stand.

The founders agreed with me. Show me what makes you think they didn't and I'll show you where you misread what they said.

A house divided cannot stand was said by Jesus, and is a maxim. The founders could not possibly have disagreed with it. It is like saying "water runs downhill". Not open to argument.

Why are you out here advocating liberal ideas?

Because it's easier to make sweeping generalities than engage in real debate.

"Self government starts with respecting a nation's borders."

Somewhere along the way, you'll have to pint out to me where I've argued against secured borders...here's I've never argued against them, yet, people with limited cognitive abilities (you may include yourself if you wish) continuously misrepresent the picture on any issue as actual support for the side they oppose.

I see the WHOLE picture, whether you do or not is indicative of your particular limitation, and not indicative of my support of the side opposite to yours.

Illegal aliens are exploited by consumers for cheap services, politician for votes, donations and support, and industry for cheap labor; it's always been that way, and it will always be that way.

Now, I am here, and this is my country, and no amount of self-righteous, bloviating from the likes of you will ever get me to back off my freedom of thought and expression.

And I can do it in two languages.

It's my country every bit as much as it is yours...and you can't do a thing about it.

P.S. If the Founders had believed as you do that a house divided can't stand, then they would not have given us the right and the freedom to stand divided.

I trust them far more than I trust you.

One man, one vote.

I have the liberty to speak my mind freely and to advocate my ideas freely and openly, and your opinion carries no more weight than mine does, regardless of whether you agree with them or not.

Is it illegal to be a communist in the US?

Yes, he did, but it wasn't intended to be amnesty per-se. They had a whole series of qualifications they had to meet, not the least of which was not being on the public dole, and once they met all the rules there was still an 18 month waiting period.

As I recall, the bill he signed called for sanctions against employers who hired illegals -- this was to keep more from coming in.

We don't need amnesty, we just need to crack down on employers to take place and attrition will take care of at least some of the problem.
