Defending Putin is always topic A isn't it?

Even on a thread about Chavez.

Do you and your colleagues get "alerts" from keyword programs that pickup any mention of your boss?

Hitler won by a wide margin the last time he held an election, too.

Saddam won with 100% of the votes cast.

Not really. National Socialists never captured more than 37 percent of the national vote. But they had plurality in the parliament so president Hindenburg appointed Adolf Hitler to be the chancellor.

Hitler became a dictator later, after the terrorist attack on Reichstag (parliament) which was blamed on the Communists. Special anti-terrorist laws were introduced which gave unchecked powers to the executive branch of the government.

That Putin stole the election from Irina Khakamada or from Horation Alger or from anyone else is a lot more likely than that it was an honest election. Litvinenko is as likely to have died of natural causes as that Russian elections are honest.

My comment was actually about Saddam, not Hitler. Just clarifying my post. Apparently when I tried to italisize it didn't work.

I see. Let me say it to dr_who_2.

It's called "fixing the election" and intimidating the voters. I believe the murder rate in Caracas under Chavez increased by nearly 70%.

"National Socialists never captured more than 37 percent of the national vote."

You don't know what you are talking about.

In March 1933 (the last truly free elections in Germany until after the war) the NSDAP captured 43.9% of the vote.

In subsequent elections -- which became about as fair as those Chavez has conducted in Venezuela -- they did far better.

I thought Hitler held a referendum on his rule where he got 75% of the vote. Not sure if any of the other 25% stayed out of prison camps, but...

Sadly, it appears that the average Venezuelan actually did vote for an expansion of socialism. In their own best interest.

Next election he'll win by 100%.

More like 112%

And Jimmuh will STILL declare the election a fair one where he couldnt find a hint of fraud.

Chavez wins re-election by wide margin

..and The New York Times cheers:

today's New York Times:

If President Hugo Chávez rules like an autocrat, as his critics in Washington and here charge, then he does so with the full permission of a substantial majority of the Venezuelan people, Sunday’s election here showed.
