The military seems to have a language of its own, with many terms, acronyms, initialisms and abbreviations that aren't generally used in the "civilian world."

What is an acronym? It is a word created from the first letter of a series of other words. It is spoken as one word. 

What is an initialism? It is a word created from the first letter of a series of other words, but each letter is spoken separately. 

What is an abbreviation? It is a shortened version of a word. 

What is Short Speak? It is any and all of the above.

SCATANA security control of air traffic and air navigational aids

Developed in the 1960s, Scatana was originally intended to clear the skies following confirmed warnings of an attack by the Soviet Union. This would have provided unrestricted airspace for U.S. bomber aircraft and missiles, as well as air defense interceptor aircraft, emergency airborne command posts, and associated support aircraft like refueling tankers. Until September 11, 2001, Scatana had never been fully implemented, although it was partially activated by accident during a 1979 false alarm at NORAD.   More at this link.

Scared To Death

Our Savior Jesus Christ . . . abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. —2 Timothy 1:10

The opening line of a country song, “Sarabeth is scared to death . . . ,” leads the listener into the fearful heart of a teenage girl who is diagnosed with cancer. The lyrics of  “Skin (Sarabeth)” expose the struggles she faces, not only with the disease and its treatment but also with the obvious evidence of her struggle—the loss of her hair (hence, the title). It is a touching song of triumph in the midst of tragedy, as Sarabeth deals with the understandable life-and-death fears that cancer brings.

The specter of death is faced by every human being. Yet, whether we face that reality with fear or with confidence is not dependent on having a good outlook or a positive attitude. The way we face death depends completely on whether or not we have a personal relationship with Jesus, who gave Himself to die so that death itself could be abolished.

Paul wrote to Timothy that our Savior was the One who “abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel” (2 Tim. 1:10). The result is that even in the most disturbing times of life, we never need to be scared to death.

You bet - I don't work in defense anymore, but the hub works his postier off (for the Army I might add). Being a former Navy dude we were happy with: Navy beat Army! Hee hee - they won!
