PM Overrules Security Brass, Grants Immunity to Rocket Cells (Arrrgh!!!)

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Foreign Minister Tzippi Livni overruled Israel’s security chiefs Sunday, handing down orders that soldiers are to make no effort to prevent rocket fire.

Israel Radio diplomatic affairs correspondent Shmuel Tal reported Sunday afternoon that the Security Cabinet decided at its meeting to instruct the IDF not to take action to stop terrorists identified as about to launch rockets towards Israel or hit them immediately afterward either.

Defense Minister Amir Peretz and Public Security Minister Avi Dichter both argued that Israel is obligated to protect its citizens from rocket fire. They were overruled, however, by Olmert and Livni, who asserted that there are “other considerations.”

Peretz told the Cabinet that the cease-fire agreement in Gaza is being observed only “in-part” and said it was critical that Egypt act to intercept arms before they were transferred to Gaza through the Rafiah tunnel system. He also disclosed that IDF officials have been attending meetings with the Hamas officials running the Palestinian Authority militia. Peretz also urged those present to allow the IDF to fire at those preparing to launch rockets. "The safety of the citizens of Israel must not be gambled with,” Peretz said. “We must act against rocket launching cells.”

Olmert and Livni struck down the idea though. “We must act responsibly and wisely, while considering all aspects of the issue,” Olmert said.

“The situation is sensitive and we must act with wisdom and serious consideration," Foreign Minister Livni echoed.

The Cabinet decision came just over an hour after a fifteenth rocket since the declaration of the cease-fire was fired toward Jewish towns in the western Negev.

Islamic Jihad Promises Attack “In the Coming Hours”
The Islamic Jihad terror group threatened to attack Israel "in the coming hours" Sunday evening. It made the threat, the spokesman said, due to Israel's “70 violations of the cease-fire.” Islamic Jihad and other terrorists groups have charged that Israel's counter-terrorist actions in Judea and Samaria are in a violation of the ceasefire, although the agreement was restricted to the Gaza region.

"Calm is on the cusp of collapse due to the continued Zionist violations and attacks against our Palestinian people in the West Bank and Gaza," Islamic Jihad spokesman Abu Ahmed said in a recorded statement. "Nobody should blame us for any reaction our brigades will take in the coming hours in response to the violations by the Zionist occupation."

Security Cabinet Calls for Yet Another Withdrawal
The Security Cabinet ordered the withdrawal of IDF forces from the town of Ghajar – which straddles the Israeli-Lebanese border and has been a center of arms and drug smuggling as well as terrorist infiltrations.

Thus, Israeli Druze of Ghajar will find themselves under the authority of the United Nations forces that are being entrusted to patrol the area.

This is like reading the deliberations of the Judenrat in the Warzaw ghetto. "No, better not alienate the Germans. If we help them to send off yet another trainload of people they will surely be satisified."

What happened to "never again"?

Can anyone who voted for these complete lunatics and cowards ever forgive themselves?

OK, better stop there or I may actually say what I think......

I can't believe they would do something so stupid! They just handed them a license to kill their own people without worry of retribution. Dear God let them elect a competent leader soon...

People often muse

"What would it be like to live in the US if Al Gore had been elected?"

Well, now you know. I think we would suffer thru just this kind of insanity - only here it is not a matter of discussion, but rather, an object lesson in liberal stupidity.

But Gore was NOT elected.

Instead, many Americans are outraged that Pres. Bush has ignored
the terrorist Saudis, the terrorist-permeable borders, and a State Dept
which just cannot s&ck up enough to terrorists
as it supplies them with endless weapons and US taxpayer money.

This is not good...

I see this as what the DEMS have planned for America's foreign policy in the future.

Thanks for posting...but, I don't understand why they are doing this...it certainly doesn't get them any "credit" from the UN or most other countries.

This is like reading the deliberations of the Judenrat in the Warzaw ghetto.

they requested 24,000 victims, 3000 a day for eight days. I succeeded in reducing the number to 20,000, but only on the condition that these be children under the age of 10. Children 10 and older are safe! Since the children and the aged together equals only some 13,000 souls, the gap will have to be filled with the sick.

FRmail me to be added or removed from this Judaic/pro-Israel/Russian Jewry ping list.

Warning! This is a high-volume ping list.

If the Arabs would have sit the Libs. in Is, would have destroyed it by now. Over here the RATS won't be satisfied till millions of Americans are killed. Maybe the idea is to kill off the seniors and claim they "saved S.S.)???

Do you know what the implications of the following will be:

"Thus, Israeli Druze of Ghajar will find themselves under the authority of the United Nations forces that are being entrusted to patrol the area."

The Islamic Jihad is threatening attacks. No one knows if they intend to fire more rockets or releasing suicide bombers. If it is rockets and they manage to kill a number of Israelis I think Olmert will be ousted. This has gone far too long. And now it is getting very tense on the northern border again. Israel is fearing attacks from Hezbollah in cover of the unrest in Beirut.

As reported, it is an incomprehensible decision. One wonders what the future holds in store with such men at the levers of power.
