Terri's Story
Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation ^ | December 3,2006 | Schindler Foundation

Posted on 12/03/2006 3:03:26 AM PST by 8mmMauser

Theresa Marie Schindler was born to Robert and Mary Schindler on December 3, 1963. She was the first of three children the Schindlers would have.

Terri was a shy, but comical, child who had an affinity for music, animals and the arts. She kept a small circle of friends and was dear to schoolmates, neighboring families and her own extended family.

Following high school, Terri came into her own. She developed a knack for sketching and doodling. She enjoyed outings with her friends. She was an adoptive mother to the family’s dog, Bucky.

Terri attended Catholic School while growing up and remained close to her faith throughout her life.

In 1983, Terri met Michael Schiavo at Bucks County Community College and the two began dating. He was the first romantic interest Terri had.

The couple was engaged within a few months and married a year later at Terri’s church in Southampton, Pa. She was 21.

In 1986, Terri and Michael relocated to Pinellas County, Florida and her parents followed three months later.

In 1990, at the age of 26, Terri suffered a mysterious cardio-respiratory arrest for which no cause has ever been determined. She was diagnosed with hypoxic encephalopathy – neurological injury caused by lack of oxygen to the brain. Terri was placed on a ventilator, but was soon able to breathe on her own and maintain vital function. She remained in a severely compromised neurological state and was provided a PEG tube to ensure the safe delivery of nourishment and hydration.

On March 31, 2005, Terri Schindler Schiavo died of marked dehydration following more than 13 days without nutrition or hydration under the order of Circuit Court Judge, George W. Greer of the Pinellas-Pasco’s Sixth Judicial Court. Terri was 41.

IIRC, it was the SPCA that first used animal cruelty laws to attack the child labor conditions in sweatshops back in the late 19th or early 20th century.

All I am doing is playing devils advocate

An innocent woman was put to death in one of the cruelest manners imaginable, so I'm quite certain that the Devil had more than enough of his minions "advocating" his position.

IIRC, it was the ILGWU that was the force behind child labor laws. In fact, I believe they are still crowing about it, complimenting themselves for their deep humanity but not mentioning that they competed with child labor and got higher wages by destroying the children's right to work. Neither did they mention why children should not be free to work. We hear of all the abuses, but not the other side, namely, that some of those kids needed to work to support themselves or their families. When that freedom was taken away from them they were put in orphanages or foster homes or such, and subject to more abuse than ever. They were turned into wards of the state.

I stand corrected.

But the bone scan shows Terri was attacked from behind. There's no way you can spin that into something innocent.

Walker agreed that CPR attempts the night she collapsed could be responsible for the abnormal readings on the ribs. The bone in the back, L1, could have been broken then too. The L1 was the only fracture as confirmed by xrays. In his testimony, Walker concedes that this was the only broken bone in the scope of the bone scan he reviewed. Bone scans are based on a body's metabolism and not bone structure.

Other causes of abnormalities in the bone scan were given on the report.

"Additional possibility would be neoplastic bone disease, widespread disseminated infectious bone disease or multiple bone infarcts from abnormal hemoglobin."

As stated in the autopsy, Terri had a markedly reduced hemoglobin as a result of treatment given her immediately following her collapse.

>> Walker agreed that CPR attempts the night she collapsed could be responsible for the abnormal readings on the ribs.

Dr. Walker is talking about possibilities, not known facts. All perfectly reasonable, docs consider various causes. But keep in mind that while such injuries via CPR are possible, the probability that it happened that way is near zero. (Same with "bulimia" -- the odds against it were absolutely astronomical.)

Now think a bit. Suppose it was CPR -- then we don't have a cause for Terri's collapse. Why would she need CPR, if not for the injuries shown by the bone scan? No other cause is known or even suspected.

The bone scan offers a solid explanation. It is fully consistent with all the known facts and with Occam's razor. You don't need to look further and try to evade the obvious.

I don't expect you or some of the others to be objective about this stuff, especially at this late date. That would remove all meaning from your cyberlife. I post this information just in case some clear thinker accidently gets this far in the thread.

So, use your clear thinking and explain how Terri ended up on the floor right after Michael got home?

A perfect illustration of your constant refrain, 8mm. Visitors who reach for insults instead of arguments are looking in the mirror.

Tea, itself, is a source of potassium. Therefore, even if Terri was drinking alot of tea she shouldn't have a potassium loss due to that. Something besides tea caused the low potassium. I believe it was trauma that caused it.

She couldn't have had bulimia.

Tooth and mouth problems, such as discolored and decalcified teeth, and sensitive, swollen, and bleeding cheeks and gums. These are caused by vitamin deficiencies and by the stomach acid that comes up with vomit.

http://www.helpguide.org/mental/bulimia_signs_symptoms_causes_treatment.htm

http://www.faqs.org/health/Sick-V1/Bulimia-Nervosa.html

She didn't appear to have any major dental problems until several years after Michael ordered the nurses not to clean her teeth.

On admittance to the ER the night of the original incident, the doctors would have been able to determine if bulimia was a factor by the condition of her teeth and gums.

>> I believe it was trauma that caused it.

Probably. It also could have been the bolus that was administered by the emergency crew, or caused by epinephrine. It could have been a combination of such causes. Her K level (2.0) was very low, but it was acute, not chronic (as would be expected in a dietary problem). That is, it was a one-time thing which vanished quickly with treatment. This too points to trauma.

We were saying as much here years before Dr. Thogmartin made it moot by ruling out bulimia in his autopsy report.

But thank you for this info. It offers a fresh insight! It's quite a different case from the one we presented, and gives more force to the refutation.

What all of this refutes is -- Michael's only alibi.

For heaven's sake, don't tell her that George Bush and Tom Delay said the same thing, in almost those identical words :-)

Thanks for the good news. People of every political view pitched in to try to protect Terri. They came from every faith or none. For one glorious moment in history, we had Ralph Nader of the Green Party, Sen. Tom Harken, Nat Hentoff of the Village Voice and Jesse Jackson, representing the liberal-Left, making common cause with Sen. Rick Santorum, Rep. Tom Delay, President Bush and Pope John Paul II. What joined them -- I'd like to think -- was good-heartedness and bedrock principle.

Amen to that. Thank you for your witness and your moving tribute to Terri and her family. The Schindlers kept the faith despite every adversity. So must we.

How do you think you could improve this cartoon t'wit?

I always thought of a big fat wallet in his back pocket. Maybe dragging along two kids with his mistress along with a nursing diploma hanging out of his front shirt pocket saying "thanks for everything Terri".

I didn't know that. Bulimia really leaves calling cards, eh? Interesting. Always glad to get new information.
