Theresa Marie Schindler was born to Robert and Mary Schindler on December 3, 1963. She was the first of three children the Schindlers would have.
Terri was a shy, but comical, child who had an affinity for music, animals and the arts. She kept a small circle of friends and was dear to schoolmates, neighboring families and her own extended family.
Following high school, Terri came into her own. She developed a knack for sketching and doodling. She enjoyed outings with her friends. She was an adoptive mother to the familys dog, Bucky.
Terri attended Catholic School while growing up and remained close to her faith throughout her life.
In 1983, Terri met Michael Schiavo at Bucks County Community College and the two began dating. He was the first romantic interest Terri had.
The couple was engaged within a few months and married a year later at Terris church in Southampton, Pa. She was 21.
In 1986, Terri and Michael relocated to Pinellas County, Florida and her parents followed three months later.
In 1990, at the age of 26, Terri suffered a mysterious cardio-respiratory arrest for which no cause has ever been determined. She was diagnosed with hypoxic encephalopathy neurological injury caused by lack of oxygen to the brain. Terri was placed on a ventilator, but was soon able to breathe on her own and maintain vital function. She remained in a severely compromised neurological state and was provided a PEG tube to ensure the safe delivery of nourishment and hydration.
On March 31, 2005, Terri Schindler Schiavo died of marked dehydration following more than 13 days without nutrition or hydration under the order of Circuit Court Judge, George W. Greer of the Pinellas-Pascos Sixth Judicial Court. Terri was 41.
In taking away any hope of a normal life, these doctors also broke faith with a future treatment or cure for Ashley's affliction. Medicine has been making such technical progress, you'd think the docs could have swallowed their diagnostic pride and left Ashley a chance for a future.
...the other denizens of the sewers and fever swamps.
You win first prize!
What do I win, lunch with Moyers? I'd have to keep a bucket handy beside the lunch table. My stomach is not as strong as it used to be.
When I was {cough} younger, we had two venereal diseases. Now we have 25. That's a lot of progress in one man's lifetime. Likewise, when I was a lad, we had two sexes. The Clinton Administration officially recognized seven. More progress. Too much progress. A book I'm reading, by a psychologist, points out that the #1 prescription drug for college students is the anti-depressant Prozac. Who wouldn't be clinically depressed if all you had were the liberal, politically correct views of your life and your future dished up 24/7 in universities.
What incredible disregard for life! I guess it only makes sense that if people can find a way to justify abortion (as depicted in these photos) then they, too, would have no problem justifying what happened to Terri.
I do not believe it is all a matter of ignorance either, but rather a condition of the heart. Sure, there are many people who do not realize that this is what an abortion looks like. But if awareness was the only thing lacking, there wouldn't be a doctor in this country who would perform such a disgusting act.
I'm curious to know if anyone has seen the film "The Sea Inside." It's a subtitled film, and I believe a true story about a man who pushes for the right to die after years of paralysis from a diving accident.
It's a very well acted and put together film. Some of my friends have told me that they were upset because they felt that the intent of the film was to promote the right to die. But I suggested to them that were that true, they did a very poor job of making the case! In the film, this man was very much loved by his family and others who came into his life. They were all willing to care for him as long as need be, forever if that is what it took. The people around him wanted him to live, and were willing to sacrifice their own lives to care for him. He was the only person in the film who couldn't see the value of his life, and so wanted it to end.
With all of the thoughtful, intelligent people on this thread, I was wondering what were your thoughts about this film if you have seen it? If you haven't seen it, I recommend it....if for no other reason than to discuss it here.
(local media is still calling Terri Schindler Schiavo "The Terri Schiavo Thing". They are in total denial that Terri was ever a human being. The media is despicable!
DON'T FORGET: Today is Robert Schindler, JR.'s Birthday: January 6th.
All, feel free to post a birthday greeting to Bobby. He's a great guy and has become an engaging, polished speaker. SAFE HOUSES for the DISABLED. I luv that plan. TERRI'S STATUE AT NAPLES U. I luv that plan. FV
So SEN. TIM JOHNSON, SD voted against Terri's life. I'm thinking that while he is in a drug induced coma, he may be experiencing some state of consciousness and if he ever does wake up, maybe he'll have learned something. Wouldn't it be a miracle if he woke up and became PRO-LIFE? I'm just sayin'.
Great, happy birthday, Bobby! Best regards to you and the family, and our prayers for your dad's continuing progress.
Your 1204. WHY CANNOT WE LUV PEOPLE THE WAY THEY ARE? It doesn't seem that the parents of the girl got a lot of other medical opinions (just the ones they wanted). Sounds like Judge Greer throwing out all the EXPERT OPINIONS who knew that Terri was alert and aware.
TRUTH BE TOLD: She's in the party of death. There's a book called "The Party of Death". (RINOS are in w/them too).
First it was a meal with Moyers, now it's pucker up with Pelosi. Ye gods, no wonder my stomach is so wobbly this morning.
They are having a wing ding in Las Vegas. TOO BAD THAT GREER'S GOT 20/200 VISION. He won't be able to see the showgirls! However, he was able to see everything perfectly re: Terri especially the kickbacks.
I may have the vision numbers wrong. He is legally blind but lied about it at a townhall mtg. Greer has a driver and in his courtroom, justice is so blinded that it is injustice.

Well, I guess Michael Schiavo wasn't in that film.
