"Virginia Senator-elect Jim Webb is the rare Washington figure who doesn't suck up to power."

No, but he thinks a man putting his son's penis in his mouth is a good thing. What the hell were the voters in Virginia thinking?

"Then don't tell us who you voted for if you can't explain it."

You're not giving orders around here.

Then go back to bed and give it another try a little later. More sleep will make you less ignorant and stupid.

It wasn't an order, it was clue I generously gave you. But you're too ignorant and stupid by your own admission to realize that.

Now, go back to bed, and that's an order!

Hain't we got all the fools in town on our side? And ain't that a big enough majority in any town?

The real problem for Republicans is we need to try harder for the idiot vote.

Look into the history of LBJ's silver star.

That happened like this: LBJ, as a young Congressman, rushed to enlist after 12-7-41 and got a direct commission in the Navy. He was posted to the SW Pacific in some minor role and was a passenger in an aircraft that was supposedly jumped by Zeroes over New Guinea. It could be that he had his fill at that point because afterward he started to make noises that he had important unfinished business back in Washington.

Orders soon arrived sending him back out of the theater and he had an "exit interview" with the theater CG, Gen. MacArthur, who pulled a Silver Star out of his desk drawer. Pinning it on Johnson, he urged him to keep the SW Pac area in his thoughts when he got back to Capitol Hill -- "we're so starved for resources here," etc., etc. Robert Caro covers this pretty well in his bio of LBJ.

But Jim Webb, Democratic U.S. senator-elect from Virginia, has become a pompous poseur and an abuser of the English language before actually becoming a senator.

The classless wonder should be interesting to watch on the Senate Floor

Webb has become so enamored of his Scots-Irish mythology, I think he believes it gives him license to be a loud, obnoxious boor,

^^^^^^

This is my impression, also. When I heard him on the radio tour promoting that book, he came across as a very bigoted guy, who had admiration for some of the qualities of his subject people, but a lot of contempt at the same time. His actions at the White House are not what any Naval Academy graduate would be expected to do, no matter what were their ancestral roots.

One irony of the whole incident is that Cindy Sheehan began her fifteen months of fame by camping out at Crawford demanding to speak to President Bush about her son. Jim Webb gets an invitation to meet President Bush and takes umbrage at the idea that the C-in-C would ask him about his son.

The upshot is for Presidente George Bush to order US Marine Son-of-Webb back to CONUS immediately. To report to downtown San Francisco Marine Recruiting district umpty-squat for the duration of his enlistment.

Virginia Gobner Elect Webb can have his dream come true.

Does anyone know anything about Webb's wife? ...I saw a picture of his wife and she looks like the mail-order-bride type. I could be wrong though.

Hong is Webb's third wife. She is not a mail-order bride. Her family fled Viet Nam many years ago. She is educated here and is a securities lawyer.

Turned out she was pregnant during the campaign and that may be why you didn't see much of her.

Basically, Webb is a "hero" to the rabidly left-wing, anti-war folks inside the Beltway. Let him spew; some day he will say something that will make him look dumber than Allen during the "macaca" incident...and possibly even more so than Kerry's "botched joke."

Jim Webb is the personification of my Mama's adage that money can't buy class. Jim Webb is the Britney Spears of the US Senate.
