There was a thread here recently about Cuban shipyard workers who were virtual slaves at an Aruba yard which was doing repairs on cruise ships, and which has ties to a Florida company.
Just think of the possibilities if Cuba is allowed to get that "most favored nation" status. Those workers can then be employed at home, benefitting Cuban companies with "ties" to American companies. Everybody will get rich except the workers.
If the average Cuban makes $15 a month, which I believe was posted above, an increase to $50 would be quite an improvement
You and I don't see those wages as adequate, but it's my take that the Cubans would be happy to have them.
Cuba's tourism would instantly skyrocket should the government moderate their policies.
I don't think we should think of the opening up of Cube per se in a negative light. Even if some 'carpet bagging' takes place, the average Cuban's lot would surely double or triple in ghe first decade, and perhaps significantly more.
I understand the cause for some people's concern, but I still think things would work out fairly well.
