and who set the rules of engagement our troops follow now? who continues to assign them to high risk, low value tasks like checkpoint and convoy duty, where they are cut to ribbons by car bombs and IEDs? are "the generals" you want Bush to listen to, making those decisions?

Those are the generals who won the major operations war and will win the war against the terrorist insurgency represented by Iran, Syria, Al Qaeda and the Iraqi factions they use. It is the generals and the troops who win the wars, of course with the leadership of the one and only Commander in Chief; the President, not the secretary of defense nor the politicians, nor the judges, nor the media, and nor the armed chair generals.
