TBILISI, December 8 (Itar-Tass) -- Turkey will transfer some of its quota in the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline to Georgia and Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Natiq Aliyev said after a Friday meeting with the Georgian and Turkish colleagues.

“The Turkish quota in the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline is 3 billion cubic meters in 2007,” he told a press briefing in Tbilisi. “However, Turkey has decided to delegate some of its quota to Georgia and Azerbaijan. We also decided to compensate the Turkish delegated quota in 2008-2009.”

Aliyev did not say how large the delegated quota would be, but said that experts of three gas companies will meet in Baku on December 13 for coordinating the issue.

It was said earlier that Georgia’s quota will make 250 million cubic meters in 2007. Yet this is not enough for meeting the domestic demand, and Tbilisi asked Baku and Ankara for sharing some of their quotas with it.

Tbilisi also continues gas negotiations with Moscow and Tehran. Georgian gas needs are estimated at 1.8 billion cubic meters. The main supplier of gas to Georgia is Russia.
