U.S. Embassy Islamabad released the following Warden Message on December 22, 2006:

The Embassy has received information that unidentified members of the Taliban in North Waziristan have issued propaganda encouraging attacks on members of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and international organizations. U.S. citizens, particularly those who work for such organizations, should defer travel, and are reminded to examine their personal security practices. As always, we remind American citizens to avoid areas where Westerners are known to congregate, to vary their routes and times, to be aware of their surroundings at all times, and to maintain a low profile.

For the latest security information, Americans traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department's Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov where the current Worldwide Caution Public Announcement, Travel Warnings and other Public Announcements can be found. Up to date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the United States, or, for callers outside the United States and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays).

U.S. citizens may contact the American Citizens Services Unit of the Embassy or the Consulates General for further information. Each of the telephone numbers listed below is available 24 hours a day for emergency services.
