From the title it seemed (personally) that it was referring to Bill Gates. That would be surprising given his liberal tendencies.

the was shouldn't have been italicized.
To: Tailgunner Joe
Wow. Surprising.
I would have thoght Gates would have said to either negotiate, or even more likely, say that we should just let them have it.
To: LegendHasIt
"Wow" is right. Shocking, even, to say such a thing.
I wonder if Gates believes there are any other countries China can attack without triggering a direct response by the US?
To: LegendHasIt
I thought it meant to resist attacking China if they attack Taiwan. Gates also surprized me.

What does it matter? The ChiComs are going to wait until the Hildabeast takes over in '09 before they invade Taiwan. Also the Chia Pet will invade South Korea then as well. Both events will take place without ANY interference by the DemonRat controlled congress and White House.
Many here will disagree that her Heinous will be elected, but after what I witnessed last November, the American sheeple are just stupid enough to allow this to happen.

Why do believe it is "shocking"? I think America should defend Taiwan in the event of attack by China.
To: Tailgunner Joe
But, we chose to recognise Beijing, instead of Taipei. Where's the genius in that? We know Beijing wants Formosa - Taiwan, because of the logistical capacity Taiwan provides China for the South China Sea. Beijing is undermining everybody - including us, because that way they can absorb all of our technology.
We are screwing ourselves, and our congress - in its infinite stupidity - has sealed the issue, because of the political and economic interest they have invested.

Follow the money on this....A little work on who's been supporting the Gates family all these years would probably hit paydirt. Same for most of these retreads. Carlye group, you name it. It has America sell out written all over it.

I don't know if that is true, but I will say historically, that the U.s. has stepped up and indicated to China that they will be dealt with IF they decide to interfere with Taiwan's operations in their own country.

It depends upon what Gates means by "resist." Is it a retaliatory attack against the Chinese mainland? Is it just logistical support for Taiwan? A nasty email?

So do most of us. It's shocking that someone who had been in higher levels of government would say so. We aren't used to that.
To: freedomfiter2
Ah, pardon me. I understand. Yes, it is good to hear someone say it.
To: Tailgunner Joe
China needs Taiwan intact and functioning smoothly. It wouldn't be in their best interest to launch a destructive assault against their little, but precious, satellite.
Nevertheless, without our strong military support Taiwan would already have been subsumed by the dragon, and our continuing pledge helps keep Taiwan free.

Foster Klug Tell this journalist that Taiwan is a territory of the USA. Taiwan might be sold to China, and probably cheaper than trying to capture it militarily. What's it worth? All the Fed paper in China times 2? Tell the new Pentagon guy, too.
