This is excellent news for individuals to evaluate their emergency preparedness state. Hopefully all will learn lessons from this. And quit whining - "Where is the government to give me stuff!!!" - of course.

Funny you should mention it... we literally (just yesterday) finished hooking up the auto-transfer switch for our new 22 kilowatt generator. We can power the entire house with it, and we have 36 hours of Gasoline stored for it. So you know how it is when you get a new toy... we can't wait to lose power now.
Besides, they haven't made any serious upgrades to the national power grid in over 2 decades and given the environmental sentiment, they are unlikely to change soon. that means that we should all begin to have some reliability issues where electric is concerned.
