Perhaps youthful celebrities like Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan are more to be pitied than blamed. Certainly, one branch of their education has been sadly neglected: No one has ever taught them how young ladies climb out of vehicles -- knees together, both legs lifted simultaneously, torso swiveled, feet placed firmly on the pavement.
In recent days, this oversight has evolved into something of a public spectacle. Websites devoted to celebrity gossip have featured plenty of pictures of Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan climbing out of cars.
The problem is this: Young women like Lohan and Spears are, in fact, serving as role models to girls all over the United States. A poll conducted last year by Teenage Research Unlimited found that Lindsay Lohan was the person most envied by teen girl respondents.
What's most remarkable is the deafening silence from the larger culture that has greeted the antics of the young starlets.
It's hardly admirable that adult males say nothing about the exhibitionism, but perhaps it's understandable; while they may not respect young women like Lohan and Spears, the visuals are doubtless intriguing. But older women who fail to speak out about why Spears' and Lohan's behavior is inappropriate and wrong become complicit in it on a much deeper level.
By their silence, they are allowing little girls (like they once were) to absorb the destructive message that vulgarity is the same as sexiness, that exhibiting oneself to be stared at or drooled over like a prime cut of meat constitutes "empowerment," and that it's "cool" to flaunt one's sexuality indiscriminately, rather than sharing it with a man who's shown he's interested in more than just another female body.

Britney Spears is now going in public with no underwear, and there are pictures showing everything on the internet. Apparently she doesn't care who sees what.
I thought people were overstating those pictures of Britney getting out of the car until I saw them. I hope this doesn't start a new fad with kids across the country.
It seems like an obvious publicity stunt.
I'm sure it will. I'll be walking down a street in Brooklyn, NY, and catch a glimpse of sunshine from some teenager who follows too much TV.
My 11 year old calls these girls cheap!
Thank you God!
It's a crazy thing for Britney to do. Her mother must be going crazy with her antics. She could have been paid by Playboy for those shots.
They know darned well how to get out of a car. That's not a lack of education; it's a lack of common decency on their part.
Seems like the term "Media Whore" is totally apropos here.
I have 3 granddaughters. Two of them would be mortified. The other one probably wouldn't think it was a big deal. :(
Doesn't really matter ALL that much to me. I like seeing beautiful women just as much as the next guy does, but even at my age these idiots are taking it WAY too far.
But if they lessen censorship, whatever.
Her original demographic was teenyboppers and she first presented herself to the public as a wholesome, homebred teen.
Then she tried to tap the 20something market by becoming more explicitly sexual and edgier, with less of a pop sound and more of an urban sound to her recordings.
Then she married that clod and had two kids and was perceived as mom and a recluse - not very hip.
So now her publicity people have apparently sent her out into the wide world to show off her privates in order to dispel her mommy image and reestablish a vixen one.
"I'm going to have to consider that an unconfirmed report...that is until someone can provide a link for confirmation...? (LOL)"
You don't want to see. Not a pretty sight.
"Her mother must be going crazy with her antics."
And Joe Simpson is kicking himself for not thinking of this stunt first.
Its the Pornification of America.
One doesn't have to go to extemes to be modest.
However, If you don't think of your own body and precious and sacred, you will expose it to the world.
Here's a better link, not a pretty sight.

I am really curious as to why they haven't been arrested for indecent exposure. These aren't "Oops" moments. They made the miniskirt is the new trenchcoat.
