"Death of a President," the inappropriate mockumentary that was shown with much controversy at the Toronto Film Festival, is dead after a month in release.
The Gabriel Range-directed feature which showed the simulated assassination of President George W. Bush was released on Oct. 27 by Newmarket Films, the same company that gave us "The Passion of the Christ."
Newmarket opened the film on 143 screens. Thirty three days later it's playing on three screens one very small one in New York City, one in Madison, Wis., and another in Norfolk, Va.
So far the pitiful total take is $519,000. Compare that to at least $2 million in production costs and another $500,000 for promotion and advertising. That's a nearly complete write-off for Channel 4 Television in Britain, which underwrote this bizarre and awful project.

I hope the film is sent for cremation asap. I'm happy that they lost a huge amount on this disaster.
Roger Friedman is just unhappy it wasn't successful.
Interesting POV, given that he pointedly refers to it as "this bizarre and awful project." His negative reviews must be sheer, bloody murder -- ! :)
Then when the HELL are they taking down those damned billboards! I have to look at one everyday going to work here (SF Bay Area). Everytime I see it now, I think, okay you narcissistic cretins, you won your goddamned election(or, at least, you think YOU and your sick fantasies did). Can we at least pull down your idea of campaign publicity? I don't care what you think of Bush, dreaming of wasting a sitting president is depraved.

They'll probably keep the billboard up and paint brush on the bottm, "Now available in DVD" when it comes out.
This is a perfect example.
This is a perfect example.
Southbound on Van Ness...around Bush St. or thereabouts?
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my miscellaneous ping list.
I hope this sinks that snotty Gabriel Range...and everyone else that had a part in producing/making this piece of crap.
Good God. This has all the exquisite perfection of an eggplant fart. The Left has a propensity for self-parody that is almost cruel to point out.
Actually in Central San Jose. Where El Camino turns into the Alameda, then veers into Race. Once you get onto Race, the thing slams into you from the left-hand side.
Yours is near Bush St.? How clever of them.
You're probably right. BTW, I like your tagline.
If only one (or, preferably, both) of the men had been gay and/or transgendered: this could easily have achieved "cult" status as THE Ultimate Liberal Wanking Flick of All Time! :)
Yah, and in their infinite wisdom it's up on top of a building. But the print on the thing is so small nobody down on the street can read what's on it. If I hadn't seen what the advert looked like here on FR I wouldn't have even recognized what it was.
Funny thing - the Bush St. signs around here don't get more abuse than they do. Mostly they're left alone.
This is Hollyweirds version of "If I did it...".

ROFLMAO! So what's their target group, lib-anarcho pigeons?
"Funny thing - the Bush St. signs around here don't get more abuse than they do. Mostly they're left alone."
I guess even lefties need to find their way around.
I'm sure if one were to dig back through the FOX News archives, he probably gave the movie rave reviews. Friedman is a Bush-hating liberal.
