Because, according to previous Wa Po articles, the large (50,000+) Muslim population in northern VA came out in droves to vote against Allen as a proxy for Bush.

There are a thousand reasons why Allen lost, but the main one was a relentless campaign by the WaPo and others. Everything else follows from that.

And of course, the fact that the MSM pounded home the message that George Allen was Jewish by blood had nothing to do with Webb's overwhelming Muslim landslide, did it?

Are there that many Muslims in Northern Virginia?

I don't think even General Lee had many more than 50,000 soldiers in the Army of Northern Virginia.

Looks like I will be (though reluctantly) crossing Virginia off of my list of States to retire in.
