There are a thousand reasons why Allen lost, but the main one was a relentless campaign by the WaPo and others. Everything else follows from that.

(I coined "Senator Ass" to describe Jim Webb. He may have already used it as a character in a novel.)

On top of all that, the VA GOP has run several stink-up-the-joint campaigns the last few election cycles.

Sounds like the Secret Service should nix any more proximity to the president. And if Webb is invited to any good parties, I'll be surprised. He probably needs intense treatment for PTSD. I had a very talented Vietnam Vet employee who could realy flip out into scary rage. It is just smouldering under the surface, here, imho.

The DBM and the ignorant susceptibility of the electorate to buy into their DNC, compromised 'news' brought us Webb... and sank Allen, Weldon, Santorum... etc. In the 2006 election, we saw how well FOX News, Limbaugh and the Internet countered the 24/7 assault of DBM lies, distortions and propaganda.
It was simply... overwhelmed.
