With temperatures dropping back below normal, lakes and ponds across Minnesota will be taking on new ice, some for the first time this season. But ice fishing, skating and snowmobiling will have to wait.
"We're in limbo right now," said conservation officer Lloyd Steen of the Department of Natural Resources, who helped rescue a couple of canoeists marooned in their campsite by newly formed ice last week in Voyageurs National Park, on the Canadian border. "We've got anywhere from half an inch to 2 inches. It's starting to freeze pretty hard, but you can't do anything on it."

It's "THIN" Ice, not "Undernourished" Ice.
Must be a Liberal to come up with that wording, geez.

The only way to feed undernourished ice is to send Darwin award winners out on the lake.

Classic DFL education
Gee, I'll right click and look for synonyms to 'thin' - not that I understand what those words mean in appropriate context...
To: LiveFreeOrDie2001
It's "THIN" Ice, not "Undernourished" Ice.
There was another article today where they used rapid increase in sea level, rather than the word wave. God help us all, it began when we could no longer define is.

So, am I right in thinking the following:
According to this guy, Ice must now require nourishment, like a Human Biing or an Animal.
So, will Ice have rights soon...?

I'm guessing the reporter or an editor ran the piece through a grammar check on his/her computer, and it switched "thin" to "undernourished" per in-house Political Correctness Rules, and nobody caught it.
Compare to the classic example of a (long-forgotten) newspaper that once ran a story about a company's improving balance sheet by saying it was "back in the African-American."

Grin... I lived in Minn for 12 years. Every winter season it was the same story. Near the beginning and near the end, when the ice was thin, idiots would fall in, lose cars/trucks/campers and snowmobiles. Also a few ice-fishing sheds. It is a yearly rite in Minn, not global warming.
There were two ponds near my house. During the winter I always kept a long aluminum extension ladder (good for spreading weight out) and a long length of climbing rope handy in the garage. Although it never happened while I lived there, I figure it is just a matter of time before a neighborhood kid goes through the ice.

Ya know, leave it to the StarTribune, one of the most Liberal papers in the USA.I was bored, so I went and dug up the original story. (Took all of 15 seconds; these Intar-webs are making it too easy.) I remembered it wrong; the "Back in the African-American" newspaper was the Fresno Bee in 1990, but it was done as an intentional prank by someone at the newspaper:
