There is no real danger of any legislative action emerging from this Congress. Yes, the president has a veto the Democrats cannot override, but nothing will ever make it as far as the desk at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

I feel better now. I was worried the socialists( dems) might send Pres. Bush his own shamnesty bill for Illegal aliens and Bush would sign it. - tom

Any "anti-amnesty for illegal immigrants" U.S. Senator can filibuster against any and all amnesty legislation that comes the U.S. Senate's way.

True, but the socialists (dems) can stop the filibuster by a majority vote if they use the nuclear option. The socialists (dems) are now in the majority in the senate.

And I am sure a few Republicans(Rinos) loyal to Bush would join them. - tom

Two of these RINO Senators, McCain and Hagel, are also running for the '08 GOP Presidency, and they will always want the majority of conservative votes to go their way. They know that people will be watching how they vote on all of the issues brought up during the next Congressional term very closely. Also, if Senator Warner decides to run for re-election to his Senate seat that expires in '08, he will also need the majority of conservative Virginia voters to go his way during both the Virginia Republican Primary and during the general election. Another possible political dark horse that's not really discussed is moderate Democrat Senator Ben Nelson, who may decide to run for the Presidency in '08 or become a V.P. pick. He's very "anti-amnesty for illegal immigrants", and during his entire duration as a Senator, he often crosses over to vote with Republicans on a variety of issues. If the GOP does finally grow a political spine and stick together, and that's still a big "if", then the Democrats won't be able to accomplish much for the next two years.

Morris is right for once.

The most powerful thing this the weak Dem congress has is subpeona power.

Thus the thing that will distinguish this Congress will be investigation after investigation after investigation....

"Where the Republican majority best resembled the Prussian Army - disciplined, unified and determined - the Democratic majority in the upcoming Congress is disunited, dispersed and divided into myriad caucuses and special interest groups. One could purchase the Republican majority wholesale by making a deal with the speaker and the majority leader. But to get the Democratic majority in line, one has to buy it retail -- caucus by caucus."

The final proof that Dick Morris should stick to toe sucking. He clearly doesn't know the first thing about congressional Republicans.
