Update @ 11/29/2006 1:05:23 PM:
9News has received confirmation that the device was detonated around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday by the Cincinnati Bomb Squad.
Because the device has now been detonated, there is no longer a risk of an explosion, however there is a delay while the police groups clean up the area and collect the evidence, said Lt. Tom Williams of the Cincinnati Police.
Police confirmed that the device was an incendiary device, but they did not say whether it was a working incendiary device.
Police are not sure when I-71 around Smith/Edwards roads will reopen.
Law enforcement groups today include the FBI, ATF, Cincinnati Police, Norwood Police, Cincinnati Fire and Cincinnati Bomb Squad.
If you have any information about the device or who would have placed it, please call Crimestoppers at (513) 352-3040. You don't have to give your name and you may be eligible for a reward if your tips lead to an arrest.
What state is this?
Guessing Ohio?
This is in Ohio down by Cincinnati.
Deb, do you have information on this??
The state of confusion?
I see now. Ohio Dept of Transportation.
Thanks
Maybe Ohio.
CINCINNATI -- I-71 is closed between the Norwood Lateral and Edwards Avenue after a possible explosive was found near the Williams Avenue bridge.
A witness said that a Department of Transportation landscaping crew found the device in a tree near the bridge and called police.
Police and fire crews have gathered at the opposite end of the Williams Avenue bridge. Members of the bomb squad went to the device shortly before 11:15 a.m. after a bomb dog examined the device.
A source told News 5's Emily Longnecker that the device contained a clock, wires, a battery and two tanks that may hold some sort of liquid.
Workers at the Cornerstone Office Building were evacuated from the building, and a 300-foot area around the device has been cleared of people.
Southbound I-71 is closed at the Norwood Lateral, while northbound traffic is being diverted at Dana Avenue. Traffic on the interstate is backed up for miles in each direction.

Ohio, Cincinnatti area
Yes IC. But for future reference, when posting something like this, the State should be in the headline or the first line anyway. For some reason, people tend to assume that we should all know their neck of the woods.
I bet you're sorry you asked that question now. lol
I agree. Makes it a lot less confusing.
No. I've been around long enough to know what comes after. ;~ )
I love the "Ronald Reagan Highway."
Mostly the name.
The highway's OK, too.
In a tree in a brushy area? It doesn't seem likely to damage a bridge from there. Perhaps some teenagers or those who crave attention?
Wanna bet it's probably a bottle rocket some kid left on the Fourth of July?
We've lost our freaking minds.
