Schumacher Furs To Close, Terrorists Win in Portland
Lew Waters

Posted on 11/28/2006 7:49:47 PM PST by DakotaRed

Announced earlier today on the Lars Larsen Show, Schumacher Furs, after enduring protests from animal rights activists (read terrorists) for over a year, have announced they will close their store and move out of Portland, Oregon and Multnomah County.

As all who have kept abreast of the terrorist tactics used against a legal business concern know, they have been unable to get any Police protection or assistance, at one point, even being told to "negotiate" with the animal rights terrorists.

It hasn't been printed in the news yet, but is being discussed at the blog of the Victoria Taft Radio Program

Comments made at the Wackos website include we must continue to fight for the animals, being the voice for the voiceless. Too bad the socialist can't show as much concern for unborn children as they do animals.

I like fur. I always wanted a good coat with a wolverine collar. It won't hold frost, can't be beat.

Let's be honest, this trend has less to do with animal fur and more to do with fashion.

After all, the rap culture just won won both houses...

PETA et al. get away with intimidation because their crimes are mostly against property and low level assaults not resulting in death or mayhem.

If a person has leather shoes, why couldn't they have a fur coat?

The leftist environmentalists have often invoked the American Indian of old as an example we need to follow. They tell us how "pristine" they kept theland, and other such bunk.

Well, didn't they kill animals for food and clothing too?

As always, they pick and choose where it suits their desires.

The shoe stores may be next on the PETA agenda.

"As always, they pick and choose where it suits their desires."

True! The cowhide in shoes comes from an animal too.

I also wonder how many eat gelatin? It is made from animal bones and other animal parts as well.

Hypocrites, the lot of them.

But aren't they going to MOVE, not CLOSE?

Is the headline accurate?

They are closing in Portland to relocate elsewhere. My mistake in titling.

Saw the article also...they are relocating, but, can't tell where because of legal reasons(the Schumachers did file a suit against the city of Portland earlier and the legal reason could be from negotiations, or not)

At the wackos site I linked above, they mention one place they believe they will relocate to and add, "Word is that Schumacher is moving to Bridgeport Village. It will be harder to boycott the store once it moves onto private property."

I'd like seeing business pack up and flee the cesspool of Portland and let the socialists worry about who will be paying their outrageous taxes.

I'm glad I'm across the river in Washington. I don't go over to Portland unless I absolutely have to.

One of the reasons they are moving is probably the rent. Downtown Portland retail rents are horrible and the shopping isn`t easy or great. Still, the landlords seem to be able to get their price.
Downtown Ptld. is the result of a very successful con job on the voters. And, knowing Portland, it was willing. In order to stop growth outside of the downtown area which of course keeps property values , rents and property taxes high, convinced the sheep to install the urban growth boundary and put all the fed transportation $$ into the toy train. It worked, downtown was maintained, traffic is horrible, no new malls were built and things cost more. Now,if they only could make money raindrops, life would be grand.
