I think Lieberman could be a surprise candidate, but he would have to really run as an independent.

I submit that the person who shall eventually be elected President in November 2008, is not even on this list.
Several possibilities have already been counted out, either by their own pronouncements, or by what would appear to be a campaign-killing recent reversal of fortunes.
But Nixon came from nowhere in 1966, when everybody had counted him out forever, and not only won election, but re-election. That was one of those rare times when there was no clear successor to the office to the Presidency in either party when the campaign season started.
