I wonder if the American boycott has something to do with this as well?

Coincidence? I think not.

I wonder if the American boycott has something to do with this as well? My first thought as well. I'm a teetotaler, but if I were buying wine, La Belle France would not be getting any of my money.

Probably 10% of Americans who used to buy French wine are now buying alternative bottles from Australia, Spain, Chile, and California

What not just sell it cheap? Give the world a chance to see if French wine is any good.

It used to be that the arrival of the Beaujolais Nouveau every year was a marketing event in Britain. I am not sure exactly when this stopped - however, considering it's been absolutely awful for the past few years, it's a good thing they did stop.

Why pay high prices for French wine when Californian, Chilean, Australian, and South African wines are just as good if not better and much less expensive.

What not just sell it cheap? Give the world a chance to see if French wine is any good.Based on the French wine I've tasted over the past few years...it isn't. I doubt Wal Mart could get away with selling it as a bargain.

I wonder if the American boycott has something to do with this as well? Of course it does. I don't even consider buying wine from France.

Maybe the French should reconsider the "box of wine."

That's too simple...
The French would never stand for anything so logical.
On the other hand, they could quit subsidizing the wineries and the problem would go away.

The other thing to keep in mind is that California, Chile, Australia and South Africa have a much more research focused culture when it comes to wine - they sink more into R&D than the French do.

"I wonder if the American boycott has something to do with this as well? "The euro at $1.32 doesn't help either.
Bucks are cheap. Buy American.

Maybe the French should reconsider the "box of wine."Yes, they could create a competitor to "Ripple" and "Mad Dog 20/20".

I'm having an unpleasant memory of the last wine tasting I went to - there was a Riesling room and a Burgundy room. The Australian and New Zealand Rieslings were excellent. Going from that to tasting French burgundies was like being kicked out of the honeymoon suite into the gutter outside a sewage treatment plant.
