Why pay high prices for French wine when Californian, Chilean, Australian, and South African wines are just as good if not better and much less expensive.

The other thing to keep in mind is that California, Chile, Australia and South Africa have a much more research focused culture when it comes to wine - they sink more into R&D than the French do.

New York wines, from the Finger Lakes region, are excellent.
