I don't know much about Africa but I don't know how Detroit could ever come back to a productive city.
How could anyone open a business there when 25% or less have a high school education?
I watched a disaster in progress right here in Pocatello. The local "western" store sold off their "outlet" store building next door to the main store. It was fully remodeled into a hispanic specialty store. It carried a Spanish name. No expense was spared on quality signage. A first quality effort on the surface. What was wrong? Latinos are 4.9% of the population. The Spanish speaking community is small. They are also the poorest. Migrant farm workers. Little disposable income. The business died in 3 weeks.
That same building now hosts a scrap book business. The parking lot is always full. It has been doing fine for over a year now.
Clearly, the persons who chose to use that property had very different concepts of the local market. Both parties put forth a first class effort at the outset. One had a real market, the other did not.
There is a new Mexican restaurant (Bajio) scheduled to open in Pocatello shortly. I predict the place will be wall to wall customers...just as it is in Idaho Falls. Good food. Good service.
