The Scariest Guy in Town [Henry Waxmoth]
Time Magazine ^ | 11/27/2006 | Karen Tumulty

Posted on 11/27/2006 3:32:08 PM PST by oblomov

In the altered landscape that is Washington, there's a new contender for the title of Scariest Guy in Town. He stands 5 ft. 5, speaks softly and has all the panache of your parents' dentist. But when it comes to putting powerful people on the hot seat, there's no one tougher and more tenacious than veteran California Congressman Henry Waxman. In the Democrats' wilderness years, Waxman fashioned himself as his party's chief inquisitor. Working with one of the most highly regarded staffs on Capitol Hill, he has spent the past eight years churning out some 2,000 headline-grabbing reports, blasting the Bush Administration and the Republican Congress on everything from faulty prewar intelligence and flaws in missile defense to the flu-vaccine shortage and arsenic in drinking water.

Come January, however, the man that the liberal Nation magazine once called the "Eliot Ness of the Democrats" can do even more, thanks to the two words that strike fear in the heart of every government official: subpoena power. As the new chairman of the House Government Reform Committee, Waxman will have free rein to investigate, as he puts it, "everything that the government is involved with." And the funny thing is, Waxman can thank the Republicans for the unique set of levers he will hold.

That guy has nostril hair you could braid. And he makes Poindexter look like Arnold Schwarzenegger's body double.

He reminds me of the little guy from "Fractured Fairy Tales" who used to follow the parade around and sweep up.

Interesting how the left loves its own Grand Inquisitor doing their bidding -- gee, if you described, say Sen. Joseph McCarthy in such glowing terms as he pursued communists, you'd be accused of all the worst deeds that can be found in leftist imaginations.

Why would anyone take this guy seriously? Sure he has subpoena power, but why doesn't everyone who goes before him just take the 5th on every question and leave. It's not like he can arrest anyone. Screw him.

Imitation of Henry `Nostrilitus" Waxman:

Place your forefinger under the tip of you nose, then lift upward like you're going after those pesky nose hairs. It also bares your upper teeth into a perfect Waxman snarl.

Don't do it in the mirror, the effect is frightful, just like this little man who now suddenly thinks himself omnipotent.

the man that the liberal Nation magazine once called the "Eliot Ness of the Democrats"

Eliot Ness did his job along non-partisan lines and went after real criminals.

"The state is all, and Henry Waxman is its Grand Inquisitor."

You said it.

He is the vile demagogue that the Liberals say Joe McCarthy was. ... only he hunts anti-communists, instead of communists.

"Why would anyone take this guy seriously? "

Because he can do great damage to our freedom, that's why.

Waxman is ugly. Therefore "Ugly-Americans" will become the latest set of liberal-P.C.-B.S. hyphenated "victims", that no future comedian will be able to ridicule.
