Welcome to Vermont, unless you're Republican
The Union Leader ^ | November 27, 2006 | Lori Saladino

I THOUGHT I'D share a little political adventure I had in Vermont recently. My in-laws were in town and we decided to take our daughter to Billings Farm. As we pulled into the parking lot I noticed three cars with anti-Bush bumper stickers. "Welcome to Vermont," I told my in-laws.

I joked with my husband that he should back our car into the parking space because of my conservative bumper stickers. "My car could get keyed," I said, half-jokingly.

We decided to live on the edge and park with the bumper stickers showing for the world to see. One bumper sticker in particular stood out that afternoon: "Vote Republican, It's Less Taxing."

After a fun afternoon, we headed back to our car. "There's a note on the windshield," I said to my husband.

Here's what it said:

Typical lying, hypocritical liberals. And real courageous, too.

Well, the Socialists from Vermont did say they would caucus with Democrats.

That about sums it up.

I could not believe it! Who would write such a nasty letter and not have the courage or integrity to sign it? More importantly, what a lesson to give to any children who might be there while their parent was writing such hateful words.....a spineless liberal- that's who...

I live about two miles from the clintonista's....it is lunatic leftist heaven where I live....they all go to the local Starbucks (where the landlord of the shopping center has thrown out every mom and pop store in favor of the big franchise stores) and talk about how horrible this country is and Republicans are....the gym I work at is full of leftist lunatics...Billy Baldwin, RFK Jr are members...they all have hate-Bush stickers on their car...

I have three bumpers stickers on my car which read as follows:

Dean People Suck

If Guns Kill People Forks made Michael Moore Fat!

Liberalism- A Culture of Hypocrisy

I purposely park my car next to the most vile, liberal, American hating people I can find on a daily basis....

My Dad used to live in Brookline,MA (proud home of Mike Dukakis) and I visited him there almost daily. My car was often keyed and bumper stickers were frequently ripped from my car while visiting him.

But then,Brookline has never claimed to be tolerant of the "intolerant".

Republican New Hampshire now has a Dem Governor and a Dem legislature, voted for Kerry in 2004, and both Representatives are Democrats. New Hampshire is headed the same direction as Vermont.

That disturbs me more than the national election results. With any luck, we can make this only a temporary blip on the radar screne and in '08 things can get back to something more normal for us. However, I fear we may have an income and/or sales tax by then. What a shame.

Unfortunately there a lot of folks who don't like paying taxes but who do like government services as long as someone else is paying for them.

"Where was the supposed tolerance, love, kindness and civility that liberals pride themselves on having?"

Obviously a rhetorical question.

This is a shame, I just met a person from Vermont who is one of the nicest people I've met in a long time. Maybe an aberration?

Lived in Brookline, myself, mainly because of the number of kosher food stores for several years. Third floor walkup brownstone off MA ave --- had green line on it, very nice for the price.

Drove a Chevy pickup with Texas "Truck" plates. Used to park in "Truck" parking --- apparently in MA, "Truck" plates are reserved for commercial vehicles --- not so in MA.

"'Less Taxing'? I find your Republican 'leadership' to be incredibly taxing -- taxing on the health, safety, well being, and moral compass of our country! Weakened pollution laws tax our health! Record deficits tax our children and grandchildren! Illegal, immoral wars tax the safety of all of us! How can you support a party infested with corruption, lies and deception? The Republicans are morally bankrupt!"

Leave it to the angry left liberals to try and foce their opinions on us. Intolerant morons...

Vermont used to be solidly Republican. The leftists moved in and ruined the state.

One or two elections does not equal a long-term trend.

In the 2002 election Republicans dominated New Hampshire at every level. Things could easily swing back in 2008 or 2010.

Most liberals don't want to stick around to hear a rebuttal. It's been my experience that if you engage a lib or Dem in a discussion about politics, they will end it either by saying people shouldn't discuss politics or they end it by saying despite any evidence I can provide, they still believe what they believe.
I used to think that they would walk away and think about the information I gave them.
They don't.
The next time the conversation comes up they bring up the same arguments that have already been shot down.
