U.S. Embassy Asks Bush Twins to Leave Country
ABC News ^ | November 27, 2006 | Joe Goldman and Rhonda Schwartz

Posted on 11/27/2006 11:30:43 AM PST by West Coast Conservative

Amid a growing barrage of front-page headlines, U.S. embassy officials "strongly suggested" President Bush's twin daughters, Jenna and Barbara Bush, cut short their trip to Buenos Aires because of security issues, U.S. diplomatic and security sources tell ABC News.

But the girls have stayed on, celebrating their 25th birthday over the weekend and producing even more headlines about their activities.

Officials say the media coverage upstaged publicity plans for the new U.S. Ambassador Anthony Wayne, who had only recently arrived in the country.

Neither the White House nor the U.S. embassy in Buenos Aires responded to requests for comment.

The Argentinean press blitz followed a report on "The Blotter" last week that Barbara Bush's purse and cell phone were stolen last weekend while dining at the popular San Telmo outdoor marketplace despite being guarded by the Secret Service.

Stories of the twins' visit took on wild proportions in the Argentinean press. One tabloid headline had the young women running nude in the hallway of their hotel, a report the hotel staff denied to ABC News.

According to sources, the U.S. embassy encouraged the two girls to cut their stay short because the added attention was making their security very difficult.

But to the dismay and anger of some U.S. embassy and security staff, the girls stayed on.

Thursday night, an ABC News producer was able to walk into their hotel unchecked and engage Barbara Bush in conversation while she checked her e-mail on a computer in the lobby. Jenna sat talking with friends on a sofa nearby. No Secret Service agents were anywhere to be seen in the lobby, according to ABC News' Joe Goldman.

And yesterday the Bush twins were spotted at the Sunday soccer matches, wearing team jerseys and sitting in the owner's box, watching Argentina's top team Boca Juniors compete. Several games have been canceled due to violence in the crowds this year. In fact, last weekend no spectators were allowed to attend the match other than season ticket holders.

Sources tell ABC News the twins plan to stick to their original itinerary and stay in Buenos Aires until Thursday.

Let me ask you a question. Why do you feel that the Bush daughters are ruthlessly attacked for going on a vacation to celebrate their twenty-fifth birthday?

Is it just because you don't like their father? Or do you have personal knowledge of their activities?

They are nice people, minding their own business and celebrating their birthday together, and the MSM creates a completely bogus story to make them look bad, and then a number of thoughtless freepers pile on (mostly as a weak excuse to bash their father.....as if he doesn't get enough of that on his own).

It's not unusual at all that decent folks would come to their defense.

Incidentally, I am clueless about 'pop culture' so I can't answer that aspect of your question.

That made Anthony Wayne mad.

If two Saudi princessess attended the Super Bowl while the general public was not allowed in - Americans would be offended. Same thing here.

The game that the girls attended was also attended by season ticket holders. It was the general public that was excluded, but that had nothing to do with the twins. Seems the fans had been violent during the previous few games, and the powers that be decided to make them cool their heels somewhere else rather than be allowed to see the games in person.

Ruthlessly attacked in the press? I think that American foreign policies aren't particularly popular overseas at the moment and the foreign press will jump on any opportunity to attack, even by proxy, the person perceived as the architect of those policies.

I have no personal knowledge etc., but do feel the family of pols -- from mayor to president -- should be good soldiers, do what they're told, and not cause a commotion for the time the guy (or gal) is in office. Like I said in a previous post, it's a crappy deal, but that's the way it is.

You gotta love the MSM. No ethics whatsoever.

I truly believe there is a special punishment for them. Just think about how they have lied and misled the American people.

This is not an important example because the Bush family doesn't give a rip about these kinds of lies, but they just lied about the violence in Iraq and probably caused more violence and deaths.....and they don't care as long as it makes President Bush look bad.

They are disgusting!

The press involved here was ABC NEWS. Not foreign press.

...and again I will repeat that they did nothing wrong, so therefore, no commotion.

an American in a foreign country whose behavior is offensive to the people of that country

Seems as though their behavior is only offensive to the AP, some of the Argentine tabloids, and you.

Interesting dodge. No answer to my question, but turning it nonsensically into an attack on me. I have right near me papers that I have been grading throughout the day, and a final that I have been preparing to give next week. As with most intelligent people, I am capable of multi-tasking, and responding to folks like you requires very little mental energy. Thorough enough explanation for you?

I answered it many times. I answered it but I can not make your mind understand it that is up to you. I asked the question because you asked me one. I do that sometimes.

As for multi-tasking sounds logical. I can't. Not an IQ issue though but a sensory processing one involving visual and auditory {Vestibular} issues. I can however do things many multi-taskers can't. Channel my tasking solely into a given problem if left undisturbed or undistracted. I was a good trouble shooter before I retired. HVAC, Industrial Electrical, and boiler ops.

But it has it's advantages. I can't watch TV so my mind isn't polluted by MSM :>} I look at the ticker maybe once an hour.

The commotion was in the foreign press. This whole thing started (or seemed to start) with the purse snatching.

Please indicate where either Barbara or Jenna Bush have not done 'what they were told.'

You asked me why the defense of the girls, but you provide a good example of what we are defending them against.

What is being said about them (by you and others), is not true.

Truth matters to us..........does it not to you? You find it strange that we don't like false accusations of innocent people? NICE innocent people?

I am the mother of four (grown) children and have two jobs and volunteer at a charity, as well as work as a conservative political activist.

If I couldn't multi-task I'd be dead. :)

Actually it stated TODAY with a bogus report from ABC news. You bought it hook, line and sinker.

I don't understand why you believe bad press about two good smart young women, and when your errors were pointed out to you, you turned into a sarcastic nasty person.

I think you should apologize, but I won't hold my breath.

Interesting question. If a lie causes a commotion in a foreign country and is believed by foreigners, does it matter?
