U.S. Embassy Asks Bush Twins to Leave Country
ABC News ^ | November 27, 2006 | Joe Goldman and Rhonda Schwartz

Posted on 11/27/2006 11:30:43 AM PST by West Coast Conservative

Amid a growing barrage of front-page headlines, U.S. embassy officials "strongly suggested" President Bush's twin daughters, Jenna and Barbara Bush, cut short their trip to Buenos Aires because of security issues, U.S. diplomatic and security sources tell ABC News.

But the girls have stayed on, celebrating their 25th birthday over the weekend and producing even more headlines about their activities.

Officials say the media coverage upstaged publicity plans for the new U.S. Ambassador Anthony Wayne, who had only recently arrived in the country.

Neither the White House nor the U.S. embassy in Buenos Aires responded to requests for comment.

The Argentinean press blitz followed a report on "The Blotter" last week that Barbara Bush's purse and cell phone were stolen last weekend while dining at the popular San Telmo outdoor marketplace despite being guarded by the Secret Service.

Stories of the twins' visit took on wild proportions in the Argentinean press. One tabloid headline had the young women running nude in the hallway of their hotel, a report the hotel staff denied to ABC News.

According to sources, the U.S. embassy encouraged the two girls to cut their stay short because the added attention was making their security very difficult.

But to the dismay and anger of some U.S. embassy and security staff, the girls stayed on.

Thursday night, an ABC News producer was able to walk into their hotel unchecked and engage Barbara Bush in conversation while she checked her e-mail on a computer in the lobby. Jenna sat talking with friends on a sofa nearby. No Secret Service agents were anywhere to be seen in the lobby, according to ABC News' Joe Goldman.

And yesterday the Bush twins were spotted at the Sunday soccer matches, wearing team jerseys and sitting in the owner's box, watching Argentina's top team Boca Juniors compete. Several games have been canceled due to violence in the crowds this year. In fact, last weekend no spectators were allowed to attend the match other than season ticket holders.

Sources tell ABC News the twins plan to stick to their original itinerary and stay in Buenos Aires until Thursday.

But you continue to refer to the story as true, Sabra.

Are you really confused tonight, or have you painted yourself into a corner and can't get out?

So if you disagreed with Bush on a policy were you considered a temporary Bush basher?

How many disagreements does it take to turn one into a "Bush basher"?

They just made up a story about Shiites burning Sunnis, sissy.

The left is completely lacking in morality. They will say ANYTHING to try to take this President down.

Unfortunately, they suck in some freepers who want to take the President down as well....

I would ask you to point to that instance but I'm afraid you are illiterate.

Good to be told that the story is bogus. Of course there is the old saying, "Never believe anything until it has been officially denied."

I don't know if the name of the US ambassador (Anthony Wayne) is also bogus. There was a Mad Anthony Wayne who was a Revolutionary War hero and the victor in the battle of Fallen Timbers in 1794--the person that Fort Wayne, Indiana, is named for.

It acutally has nothing to do with disagreement, Sabra.

ALL of us disagree with him on some things, some of us on quite a few things.

The difference between us and you is RESPECT. We respect the man. We know he is honorable. We don't call him names. We trust that he is trying to do what is right.

You on the other hand, treat him with utter contempt and dripping sarcasm. You have no respect for him, nor his honor. And you don't even think much of his daughters from the looks of your comments on this thread. And you openly mock those who don't hate him as you do.

That's why you're mocking me right now.

Ambassador Wayne is the new ambassador to Argentina, and this story is officially bogus.

Yada, Yada, Yada. I also heard they were seen beating their Muslim servants after forcing them to quote bible passages. Were it not for the ACLU and CAIR reps in Argentina they might have killed those servants.

Let me try to explain it to you one more time. The truth of the story is not the issue. The reflex hypocrite reaction of some posters to the story they believed was the issue.

Had it been Clintons daughter I would have given the same response as I did in this thread. The issue was National Security up till post 242 I think it was.

They messed up. They know they messed up by cheering the girls on to act irresponsibly in light of what was then assumed to be a dangerous situation. For 241 post it was assumed to be true by most posters. All they can do now is giggle and say but it wasn't true tee hee hee.

Better to be illiterate in your eyes (I'm a college professor), than to be filled with contempt for good people as you are.

We don't call him names

So now I'm accused of calling him names.

Could you cite that please.

And I even showed contempt for his daughters? Could you cite that?

I'll leave you now. The evening is late and I'm certain the President wore a nice tie or a nice shirt or just smiled today and you have not yet had the opportunity to celebrate the event.

My first post was 155 and I doubted the story. In post 162, I posted further doubt because it made no sense at all.

Most of the posts prior to that were arguing with ditzy donna who called them "Ugly Americans."

Just setting the record straight here.

Maybe tomorrow morning you'll re-read that comment and think that you shouldn't have made such a snotty remark. I doubt it, but I'll hold out some hope.

Sounds as though the main problem is the press advertizing there presence like crazy. Now a wonder why that would be?

The trip was supposed to be quiet and unobtrusive........and it was until Barbara's purse was stolen.

These young ladies don't like publicity. They like living like 'normal' Americans.........and for those who don't realize it.....many normal Americans travel extensively.

Don't hope, Dog Gone

That kind of snide comment is the product of childish jealousy and unchecked emotions. Don't be angry with him. Pity him.
