Thanks...
I heard Gen. Barry McCaffrey...shill for MSNBC say tonight that there already has been a date certain for troop withdrawal...election day 2008.
He said no matter who is elected POTUS, it will be because they will be bringing the troops home.

The question you have to ask is whether we've come to that point. I'm concerned that we have not only come to it but are well past it.
If the American public cannot muster a majority to authorize our military to deal with Iran before the Mullahs have an inventory of nuclear weapons, Israel will be attacked. This will surely escalate into the release of nukes by those countries and result in our involvement in total war. Moreover, Iran will not be able, or possibly care to, prevent terrorists from obtaining the weapons. And we can't possibly doubt where attempts will be made to detonate those bombs.
The foregoing is the brief that I would present to the POTUS and the Congressional leadership, if I was the National Security Advisor. And the point at which Iran, if we allow it, obtains a nuclear arsenal will be the point from which we will no longer be able to guarantee a resolution to this threat that will leave America in a condition that we have ever known.
I have watched the US slide into this sorry state of affairs for thirty years. It only gets worse; currently, we are witnessing the very likely possibility that an impeached federal judge will become the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.

The reason I didn't answer Phsstpok's last post to me about this...is because the thing that I fear the most at this moment, is President Bush letting us down.
I won't lie...I am a fan of his (a Bushbot, if you will), and I don't know how I will handle it if he listens to the Baker group....rather than living up to his promise that we will NOT leave until the job is done, in Iraq.
Re: Iran...I will be equally distressed if somehow Iran gets nukes under his watch...as he has stated unequivocally, that letting Iran gets nukes is not going to happen.
Unfortunately, I have already read rumblings that some of the dems have questioned whether Bush is lying about IRAN's capabilities...which brings up the question of whether he would have the backing of Congress (he won't)..do take out Iran's nuke facilities at the least.
I guess after spending half of the weekend on the kristinn thread..fighting with fellow freepers...and watching the news, with dem after dem just drooling with anticipation of a troop withdrawal soon, I am mentally and emotionally not up to debating the different tactics...
I certainly am not in the mood to look backward, which so many freepers want to do...whether it is to say "I told you so"...or how much better of a job THEY would have done.
I guess right now...I am watching the drama that is all centered in the Middle East..with the Pope, and with Pres. Bush going over there this week.
I dare say that if President Bush gives any credence to the Baker group..and includes Iran and Syria in "negotiations"...or agrees to any troop withdrawal...I may have to leave the news and FR behind for a while...

You pose a scary scenario, in the old days Israel would simply into a jet and blow the bomb makers to hell, not happening now.
,Dealing with countries like iran takes action. It's all they know, if we sit around they will continue to act until we are forced to react down the road, that's where we are headed.

Your state of mind is, IMHO, a testament to your intelligence. The permutations that are possible in this mess are numerous. What will be India's, Pakistan's, China's etc. reactions to the various scenarios? Who knows? And quite frankly, it is very likely that the American public has now surrendered the initiative to our enemies.
Denial is an all too human trait, one that most cannot overcome until disaster is at hand. Unfortunately, there is no leader on the scene at present to unify and rouse the great sleepy masses to action. Further, splitting hairs over Rudy, McCain etc. at this perilous time is akin to checking the gasoline level by sticking a match into the tank's fill pipe.
I will support the candidates that take the strongest stands on the control of our borders and on a proactive national defense. 2008, given the Iranian weapons development programs, may be the last chance to get it right. We must not agonize too intently over what we can't control; but it hurts very deeply to see one's country lose its ability to see real danger ahead. We can deal with gun control, abortion, prayer in school etc. in the long run; but time is running out in the Middle East.

I swear to you that I was thinking that very thought as I typed my post. Israel may still be the catalyst that brings the rest of the free world to its senses.

The problem is what happens right now. I am ignoring any and all discussions about who to vote for in 2008...until I find out what this POTUS is going to do re: Iraq, and other hotspots..as you mentioned. (Iran, Russia, N. Korea--although I think Kim Jong-il seems to act up when he is being ignored, more than anything)...
I wish that President Bush had given at least a soundbite to the Press, just as he was leaving today...that would have said that he is going to meet with al-Maliki...and he doesn't know yet what all will be said..
BUT, one thing that WON'T be said, is that we are leaving before the job is done...and we don't negotiate with terrorists.
BTW..I was listening to John Gibson's radio show for a while this evening....and he was discussing the one part of the Bush Doctrine...that Pres. Bush needs to remind people of....his policy of NOT waiting to be hit first..his policy of pre-emptive strikes.
Well..I have tired head tonight...I am going to give it a rest...but will be glad to discuss it with you somemore..tomorrow, if you like.

Understood. Racism is never going to end because of the race whores in America who scream racism at the drop of a hat. People like Jackson, Sharpton and the like are disgusting. So is a media that gives them a platform to spew their hatred.
To: PerConPat
Exactly that could well happen. They are as front line as you can get and their very survival depends on them taking action and not sitting around with thumbs squarely planted.

Thanks rodguy911, and congratulations to everyone. Phsstpok and snugs certainly deserved the win. Great posts. It is also nice to see us focus on the Democrats and old media versus more blame-game items towards Republicans and President Bush. We're keeping an eye on the prize instead of lamenting the past.
