This is the theory under which the Republicans have been operating for the last several years and, IMO, it's what cost them this last election cycle. Ronald Reagan proved that if you actually believe in the conservative philosophy you can compromise and appeal to moderates without surrendering your principles. This bunch just wanted to "go along to get along" in order to maintain their own positions and perks, not to accomplish the things that we put them in power to do back in 94.
I think it has to start with term limits. That was an important plank in the contract with America yet once in power almost all of them turned their backs on their promises. Say what you will about Bill Frist, he promised to serve a maximum of two terms and he stuck to it. I argue for a 12 year overall limit, House, Senate and Presidency. That would mean 6 terms in the house, two in the Senate and and increase to three for the Presidency. That's more than enough time to get something done, if you're actually going to do anything, and if someone in the House is that good they can move on to the Senate and likewise from the Senate to the presidency.
Whatever limit is imposed, it will get rid of this "we have to do this to stay in power" mentality. That was the killer this time around. Stevens and the bridge to nowhere was the perfect emblem of what the Congressional Republicans have become. That's not moderation. That's graft, even if it is legal.
I was pinged to it - not visited it yet but here is the link

Alright, here you are.......mornin'
Howie trying hard to revitalize Woodward...who is calling the administration liars, etc. Same old garbage from Woodward. I guess his book didn't do that well, so Howie has to get him some air time. A wapo to wapo interview doesn't have much credibility in my opinion.
Great post, Phsstpok! Even though I don't fully buy into the increased presidential term.
Thanks, snugs. I had looked in my history list, but could not remember the title.
Howie and Woodward are talking about how the White House was spinning his book, rather than how WOodward was spinning the information he obtained. Too funny. I have switched it off, its a waste of air time.
Now Matthews is comparing Hellary to Rep. Jane Harmon
Thanks! Reality means nothing to them.
CSPAMs funding is directly from Cable companies. There must be some messages to Brian about continuing funding being based on "fairness."
Dem dictionary: fairness, n.= dem perspective in all issues
propaganda, n. = conservative points of view
...Being a Democrat means never having to say you're sorry.
...Or, being asked by the democrat media even a cursory question about the...inconsistency of their position.
They Report, You Decide

Yeah, that too.
I think the election results are changing the way these guys
are looking at the war. Now they are in charge of the House/Congress
and if they look tough, it will appear it's because of them.
Remember, Kennedy or Johnson were never credited for the Viet Nam mess.
Only Nixon was at fault
