"monkeymen of Mesopotamia"? That's just disgusting. It's neither appropriate nor conducive to debate because it clearly frames your prejudgment. However, I don't see debate as a problem as long as consideration is given to ALL information from ALL sources (dem talking points and the MSM will never give a true picture...it would inject too much reality into their Vietnam War nostalgia) and the greatest weight should be given to those who are there and have been there every single day, not in a well-guarded hotel but boots on the ground. They may not make the 6:00 news but I've seen letters and posts from soldiers on FR quite a bit.

Since you seem to be an expert, how much time do you think is necessary? How long did it take to rebuild Germany? Japan? The Philippines? How long did it take the US to figure it out for that matter? Does Iraq merit more or less time? How many of those places were democracies at the time of their rebuilding? How many had to learn? How many had their own "insurgents" hoping to undermine the efforts of the citizens and the countries helping them? Were they confronted with a continual barrage of criticism about their inability to embrace freedom as quickly as the rest of the world would like?

I want less PC as well, but unfortunately that's not the world we live in and I think the election has probably made Bush question how much support he truly has for the WOT (especially since wall or no there has been NO attack on our soil since our troops are engaging the terrorists elsewhere). Neither the troops nor the president can do their job effectively when those at home turn their backs. I think it's especially important for those of us (I'm not including you as I don't think you consider this a worthy endeavor) who DO believe in the mission and think the troops are doing the right thing to work very, very hard to get the truth of progress out in the public. It's certainly not going to come out of the PC police in congress, the press or, apparently, even some Freepers.

I don't know how old you are but for my son who's currently in boot camp, 911 was his Pearl Harbor. He feels an obligation to serve a president he admires, the country he loves, and help others attain the liberty he's been allowed to take for granted all his life. His SDI let them call home on the Marine Corps birthday and one of the things they were concerned about (news trickles in but not much) was the election. They didn't care much about Foley or "macaca" or any of that nonsense, they just wanted to know whether the election meant the country was losing it's heart and unwilling to support the mission any longer. While in my heart I honestly don't know whether that's true I told him the public was still behind them 110%. I hope to God I wasn't lying to him but we better figure out what the heck we're doing pretty soon because it does feel like we've gone "wobbly".

FYI: Let your son know that friends of mine from the First Cav, who ran patrols and engaged in fire fights in Sadr City and many other points; who lost friends and are devastated by the loss, have nothing but contempt for these Arabs and stated in no uncertain terms that they deserve to live in their shitholes (their words not mine) and not one of their Sergeants who were killed by road side bombs were worth losing over these monkeymen (their words not mine).

FYI, Japan and Germany were burnt to the ground having under gone the most barbaric high altitude bombings in the history of warfare. Hundreds of thousands...HUNDREDS of thousands of non-combatants were incinerated in firestorms before the will of those nations were cracked. The rebuilding efforts started from zero.

How in god's name does that compare with the PC bull crap going on right now? There should be firing squads going 24/7 until the slate has been wiped clean.

Nancy Pelosi was correct in her assessment that this is a "war" that cannot be won, only managed.......because this is not a war, it's another BS holding action.

Please thank your son, on behalf of my family and me, for his decision to serve.

BTW, your tagline is perfect!
