FLQ letter threatens new attacks (Quebec terrorists)
national post ^ | November 22, 2006

MONTREAL - A letter claiming to be from a new cell of the Front de liberation du Quebec and threatening to take action for what it describes as ''Anglo-Saxon imperialism'' in the West Island and west-end Montreal is being investigated by police.

The letter, from a group or someone identifying themselves as the ''Camille Laurin Cell'' of the FLQ, was sent last week to media outlets and city halls in the western part of Montreal Island.

The letter, dated Nov. 15, threatens ''the hits will begin very exactly in three months,'' an apparent reference to Feb. 15, the anniversary of the day when five members of the Patriotes rebellion against British colonial authority were hanged in 1839.

The author claims French-speaking Quebecers are ''systematically ridiculed by a local anglophone majority who scorn the French language and the rights of francophones.''

In 1970, members of the FLQ kidnapped British trade commissioner James Cross and kidnapped and murdered Quebec Labour Minister Pierre Laporte, setting off the October Crisis.

''All these types of threats are taken seriously and are investigated,'' RCMP Cpl. Sylvain L'Heureux said.

''It's an ongoing investigation and at this point there is no indication they are going to go forward with those threats.''

Letters like the one sent out last week emerge every six months or so, L'Heureux said. But he added that even if their author has no intention to carry out the threat, he or she can still be charged with a Criminal Code offence.

A RCMP investigator who is a member of the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET), is in charge of the probe. INSET is a partnership among the RCMP, the Quebec provincial police, Montreal police, and federal agencies, who share information on possible terrorist threats.

I am but a mere American, but I seem to recall that the October Crisis did not end well for the FLQ, and was the only time in history that Pierre Trudeau discovered his inner Rambo.

I'd like to dismiss this as either a crank letter or an over-zealous/angry Francophone. But you never know...

If there are any actual FLQ members alive, they're either in jail (still) or are in their late 50's or early 60's.

Only Trudeau could have gotten away with what he did -- a Conservative PM would have been roasted on a spit.

Trudeau invoked the War Measures Act. When incredulous reporters asked whether he really meant it, Trudeau replied: "Just watch me."

The army was called out -- soldiers in full combat gear stood on every Montreal street corner. Hundreds of doors were kicked in. Everyone with known or suspected ties to the FLQ; along with many FLQ supporters, was rounded up and interrogated.

The FLQ had been bombing mailboxes for years -- but, the justification for martial law was the kidnappings.

The tough action worked.

Imagine if Bush had reacted proportionatly to the events of 9/11. Who would have been left to publish the NY Times?

All these "FLQ" members are in wheelchairs now. What are they going to do, throw their medications in the water reservoir?

Yes, and for a group of 14 or so, so-called "terrorists" Trudeau delclared the Emergency War Measures Act, spent millions of dollars transporting troops via air to gurad power lines and seize Montreal and Quebec City.

This was not Trdeau discovering his inner Rambo, but INDEED was Trudeau creating a mountain out of a mole hill for his own personal political ends: scare Canadians out of their wits, justify it by propaganda, then win the Spring election in a land slide. And Canadians bought it hook, lone and sinker.

Look where itr got them.

40 years of miserable liberal rule, social engineering, and a commie Trudeau pulling the wool, and a disarmed nation which has no identity except that created by the CBC.

So much for Trudeaus inner Rambo, which has dis -stink parallels to a necessary post liberal political enema.

Now Harper? He has an inner Rambo, and Canadians like what they see.

God Bless The True North Strong and Free!

Harper made a good manuver the other day, declaring Q-bec a nation within a nation. He made liberals look stupid and probably picked up a few seats in Quebec in the process.
Despite Canadian media's constant attacks, he seems to be holding up quite well.

I think Liberals are going to take a bad fall next election, and Harper will get a good majority. Harper is liked, and he's smart as well. People notice that.

It may be that these boys were moved to outrage by the current CBC serial production "October 1970", which portrays the moronic, pretend revolutionaries involved as, well, moronic pretend revolutionaries.

Such honesty offends their amour-propre.

Quebec has always been chock-a-block with Tartufferie of the worst kind.

They have already done that. It's called national bilingualism: french coast to coast; no English in Quebec

We can loan you a pair of F22's for 10 or 15 minutes. That should take care of their whole army.
Why Canada has ever put up with these idiots is beyond the rational thinking of any sane person. I was reading that the local muslim population up there wants to implement their own islamic law. Wouldn't surprise me if the Canadians let them. They have been good overseas in Afghanistan but at home they are giving away the store.

I agree Nate. I am thinking of moving back to Canada from the USA, but will await the results of the next election. If Canada goes genuinely conservative, I will retire to Canada.<p.

So what you're saying is, if Canada was a hockey team we'd have a good road record but stink out the joint at home.

Sounds about right, eh! ;^)

Hey, good thing it wasn't from the "Maurice Richard Cell" ... those guys really play rough ... especially in the corners!

The author claims French-speaking Quebecers are ''systematically ridiculed by a local anglophone majority who scorn the French language and the rights of francophones.''

Que?

The Quebecers were a tag team in the World Wrestling Federation from mid-1993 to mid-1994 and again in 1998. Veteran wrestler Jacques Rougeau teamed with Carl Ouellet to create a team that was quickly pushed to the top of the WWF.

So we now have radical militant wrestlers threatening terrorism in Canada?

Give them a toe-hold, and next they have Howard in a headlock?

Or do they really mean Quebecois?
