I've never seen a seatbelt extention, but what if it incorporated a buckle? Or if the strap were to be used for strangling?
These bastards were on a dry run.
Thanks for your responses. I didn't realize that the extensions were useful as a weapon. Seemed to me that a belt with a large buckle would accomplish the same thing, yet those are not banned. Oh, well.
Did you ever see a flight attendant demo a seat belt? That's the equivalent of a seat belt extension. They show you how to connect the two ends and pull tight. Put it around someone's neck, and .......
Yep. An improvised weapon. Dry runs are occurring and few notice. Thank God for the passengers and crew of flight 300.
Are all 6 still alive?
LOL!
I retired as a flight attendant for United a few years ago, and that's the only thing I could think of with them requesting seatbelt extensions. Never thought that we could have used them on unruly passengers. ;)
This topic came up at our Thanksgiving dinner table. A family member who is a flight attendant said that it is common on the long international flights she works on for a Muslim to pray. They will quietly get up during the flight, go to a galley or lavatory area out of the way of passengers and crew, and quietly kneel and say their prayers. It has yet to cause a problem because it is unobtrusive and the passengers generally don't even notice.
That situation is totally different from a large group who has already acted suspciously standing and audibly causing a commotion while the flight is preparing to depart. The response of the airline to the imams and the CAIR folks who claim they are insensitive and ignorant should be to say that they are not ignorant - they have Muslims say their prayers every day on their flights without anyone even noticing. These passengers were detained specifically because they did not act in the way passengers and crew expect Muslims to act when praying - they acted suspiciously, disturbed and unnerved passengers and crew, and caused a scene. That behavior should and will get you thrown off a commercial airplane regardless of your ethnicity or religion.
I hope your Thanksgiving was blessed and peaceful Aloha Ronnie.
stepping back in time...WASHINGTON TIMES.com: "SECOND PASSENGER SAW SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOR" by Audrey Hudson (ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The second passenger on Flight 327 said the men were "up and down the aisles of the plane the entire time," and that one of the men pushed other passengers as he rushed toward the front lavatory. She said the man did not appear to be ill, and remained in the lavatory during her entire meal. Mrs. Jacobsen said the Syrians consecutively filed in and out of restrooms, and stood during most of the flight. Just before landing, seven of the men jumped up in unison and left their seats. Upon returning to his seat, one man mouthed the word "no" as he ran his finger across his throat.") (July 29, 2004) (Read More...)
stepping back in time...JIHAD WATCH.org (WomensWallStreetJournal.com): "TERROR IN THE SKIES AGAIN?" ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The take-off was uneventful. But once we were in the air and the seatbelt sign was turned off, the unusual activity began. The man in the yellow T-shirt got out of his seat and went to the lavatory at the front of coach -- taking his full McDonald's bag with him. When he came out of the lavatory he still had the McDonald's bag, but it was now almost empty. He walked down the aisle to the back of the plane, still holding the bag. When he passed two of the men sitting mid-cabin, he gave a thumbs-up sign. When he returned to his seat, he no longer had the McDonald's bag. Then another man from the group stood up and took something from his carry-on in the overhead bin. It was about a foot long and was rolled in cloth. He headed toward the back of the cabin with the object. Five minutes later, several more of the Middle Eastern men began using the forward lavatory consecutively. In the back, several of the men stood up and used the back lavatory consecutively as well. For the next hour, the men congregated in groups of two and three at the back of the plane for varying periods of time. Meanwhile, in the first class cabin, just a foot or so from the cockpit door, the man with the dark suit - still wearing sunglasses - was also standing. Not one of the flight crew members suggested that any of these men take their seats.") (July 15, 2004) (Read More...)

The suspects may be abetting a terrorist plot--yet catching and punishing them is difficult, since they're only probing defenses, not trying to bring down the flight.") Another thing to remember is that your seatbelt is removable from its anchor. If your reach down and spread the two metal clips that "scissor" around the metal loop in the chair that anchors the belt, you can remove it.
I have thought the buckle end would make a suitable weapon if going up against highjackers trying to take over the plane.
We need a return to Common Sense. To heck with common ground.
"We need a return to Common Sense."
I agree.
Very interesting!
.....and scary!
Yep.
