LONG BEACH, Calif. - Teacher Bill Morgan walks into his third-grade class wearing a black Pilgrim hat made of construction paper and begins snatching up pencils, backpacks and glue sticks from his pupils. He tells them the items now belong to him because he "discovered" them. The reaction is exactly what Morgan expects: The kids get angry and want their things back.
Morgan is among elementary school teachers who have ditched the traditional Thanksgiving lesson, in which children dress up like Indians and Pilgrims and act out a romanticized version of their first meetings.
He has replaced it with a more realistic look at the complex relationship between Indians and white settlers.
Morgan said he still wants his pupils at Cleveland Elementary School in San Francisco to celebrate Thanksgiving. But "what I am trying to portray is a different point of view."

Of course he is, what else do Liberals do.
At "Thanksgiving" time the Indians and Pilgrims were getting along. Also they got along for quite a few years ... was it 50 or 100 years? The actions of this "teacher" are way out of line.
Maybe one of the Indians will show up tomorrow and shoot him with an arrow.
Why is the story byline Long Beach when it happened in San Fran?
I dunno, AP got the wrong City?
Can we teach the children how to scalp him?
Knock off the crap and teach you morons. Why do you think home and private schooled children are kicking your student's butt at everything! If you can't handle that then you ought to be fired...Maybe you can work for one of your former students at Wal Mart!...Jerks!
What an ass. If you don't appreciate and celebrate our country you live in you should get out -- Memo to Mr. Morgan: you're a hypocrite you insult the United States yet you seem happy to enjoy the benefits of being an American.
This teacher needs to be hung upside down and have a fork stuck in his ......WAIT, that's Michael Richard's line of comedy.
Why do liberals always project all of the evil in the world upon the whiteman?
This continent wasnt some kind of utopia without violence or grief prior to the pilgrims arrival
"Can we teach the children how to scalp him?"
First the torture. I recall they would chop all your fingers off with sharp clamshells first to try to make you scream (a humiliation) before burning parts off you.
If you were lucky they would crush your skull with a club.
"He is teaching his students to hate their country."
or is he teaching his students to learn from the mistakes of the evil puritans?
The fact that it is false is of course irrelevant.
Indians and Pilgrims got along fairly well. Maybe it was because the Pilgrim leaders were Christians.
I wonder how well that point of view would set with this teacher.
Uh uh!
Back then, all was peaceful and the indians walked with the wolf and talked with the eagle./sarc
At the first Thanksgiving Dinner, the Indians stole two candlesticks a salt shaker and some potato chips.
