Pointless and irrelevant is in the eye of the beholder. But, if you think that it would be racist, perhaps you need a dictionary for Christmas. It's not even remotely racist to publish accurate statistics about anything.

The full report has very detailed racial/ethnic breakdowns, and also by state by ethnicity. Black illegitimacy is around 70%, especially in the states with big cities. In states with few blacks, the black rate may be as low as 40%, especially in states where most of the blacks are military (North Dakota, Alaska, Montana, etc). The census also breaks down by type of "hispanic" (cubans much lower than Puerto Ricans), and "Asians" (Chinese and Japanese the lowet rates). Also by age by ethnicity, etc.

The National Center for Health Statistics is not hiding anything -- you just have to go and find the report, as the press often will not give the accurate story.

BTW, the "white" illegitimacy rate is generally highest in the south and west, and lowest in the Northeast and Upper Midwest -- probably a combination of income effect and easier attitudes toward abortion to prevent a "troublesome" pregnancy.
