U.S. Muslims outraged after imams kicked off plane
By Michael Conlon 27 minutes ago
Muslim leaders expressed outrage on Tuesday after six imams were removed from a commercial airline flight in Minnesota for what they said was nothing more than trying to say evening prayers.
"They were treated like terrorists ... humiliated," said Abu Hannoud, civil rights director for the Arizona chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, who said the men were taken off the US Airways flight in handcuffs.
He said the men were still trying to find a flight back to Phoenix where most are affiliated with a major mosque after the carrier refused them passage following the incident on Monday evening.
"We are concerned that crew members, passengers and security personnel may have succumbed to fear and prejudice based on stereotyping of Muslims and Islam," added Nihad Awad, executive director of the council, in a statement from the group's Washington headquarters.
"We call on relevant authorities to investigate whether proper procedures were followed by security personnel and members of the US Airways flight crew," he said.
The group said the men told it they were accused of "suspicious activity," which they believed was only their attempt to pray.
Hannoud said in an interview that the men had been attending a three-day meeting of the North American Imams Federation in the Minneapolis area "discussing how to build bridges" between Muslims and American society, and that the FBI and local police had been informed in advance about the meeting.
"They were rewarded by being treated like terrorists," he said. "Their humiliation is really a humiliation for the entire Muslim community," he added, and further proof that Islam phobia is a growing problem in the United States.

Good reminder of their faces and nationalities. Thanks.
Wow, Hooper was involved?
Maybe already posted, but a caller to Laura I. or Rush had a good point: There's a good chance this was a test for them to see how far they'd be able to go in preparation for a next strike. See how much passengers and crew would take before action was taken.
Here's the report I saw. I understand there is more information at Yahoo:
>>Per channel 5 here:
Basically these 6 guys were speaking Arabic amongst themselves on the jetway towards the plane. A woman who speaks the language heard some of it and was concerned enough to notify the flight attendant via a note.
Crew asked for them to leave.
Question on their ID's.
Said they were attending religious conference.
All they have for now.

"Their humiliation is really a humiliation for the entire Muslim community"
Thats the problem, they are Muslims more than Americans and they absolutely do not give a * about 9/11
They won't have to strike us hard. They just take over as this nation acquiesces and surrenders to their charges. It starts with organizations like CAIR and continues with the election of a Muslim to Congress. The train is rolling down the tracks and picking up speed.
Good. That is the way they should be treated. When they finally wake up (if that is possible) then perhaps they will receive civilized responses.
These words could be used as the lead sentence on almost any story regarding Muslims ... except the ones where Muslims kill some infidels.
cry me a river
All muslims must boycott USAirways the official airline of crusaders.
I don't like the fact that they are all over our airports. Just about every news stand, restaurant, and gift shop at our airport has them. Logan Airport also.
You of course understand that many of those people who own convenience stores, gas stations, etc are Sikhs, not Muslims, right?
It's called "interferring with a aircraft flight crew in the performance of their duties" & is a big time serious NO NO as far ass the FAA is concerned charge them with that it comes under the air piracy statutes.
At DTW, they even have their own prayer room and TSA agents.
Wow! My opinion of US Air just went waaaaaaaaaaaaaay up!
I don't think this would have happened if the Muslim community in general came out and CONDEMNED 9-11.
All we heard was, "well, sometimes it's okay to kill civilians".
This is why this stuff is happening.
Now that just isn't right!
They should have been allowed to board that plane!
Any 'throwing off' should have been done while the plane taxied, or right after the wheels pulled up.
actually I hate them. But I have to fly because I go out of PHL. Their service sucks, the attitude of their stewardess's stinks, and the baggage handle is the worst. I perfer AA.
