Savannah Country Day students could face up to 20 years in prison for manufacturing an explosive device, police said.
At least three students, ages 14-15, are the target of an investigation into why the bomb was made and why it ended up at the southside private school last week, Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police spokesman Sgt. Mike Wilson said.
In addition to the students, investigators are also questioning several parents and school officials.
*snip*
Investigators are also probing why police were not called until Saturday afternoon.

One for the education ping list.
When my son was in ninth grade in the local public high school, a Russian kid in the school made several pipe bombs with directions he got from the Terrorist Handbook. The kid told other kids at school that he was going to use one to blow up the school library and the other one to blow up our house because we lived in a gated community. I called the principal's office and waited for him to return my call. When I had waited over an hour, I called the police. Nothing happened except the kid was called into the principal's office and the bombs were confiscated.
My son graduated from a private Christian school.
I live in Savannah, and know quite a few folks who send their kids to Country Day. Just because they have $$$ doesn't mean they are smart, does it? I wonder where the parents were, and why are they not looking out for their children. By the way, this was a very poorly written story by this reporter.
And......?
At least two of the Weathermen (underground radical group of the 1960's) were spoiled, arrogant rich kids trying to save/change the world. Bill Ayers and Diana Oughton come to mind.
See my post above. GMTA.
When was your son in ninth grade?
1995-96, ninth grade at Blaine H.S., Blaine, WA.
Who was the Russian kid? Son of an Ambassador?
Pre-Columbine, too....
No, just a Russian immigrant. We have a lot of them here in Whatcom County. It's a big problem, the Russians don't seem to understand the concept of freedom. They think that it means they can do whatever they want and that laws don't apply to them. They do understand the welfare system, though, and make very good use of it.
Yeah, and then the kid bragged that he still had a few more bombs at home. He never used them, though, at least as far as I know.
Or maybe too smart for their own good. ;-)
I wonder where the parents were, and why are they not looking out for their children.
I thought it was interesting that the principal waited to contact the parents before contacting police...you'll notice he apparently couldn't find them for a day or so, so maybe they aren't around for the kids very much...
By the way, this was a very poorly written story by this reporter.
Well, hey, it's the Savannah Morning News. :-)
Just pointing out that not having your children in public school doesn't necessarily insulate you from the world...
And the local police just ignored all that? It sounds as if they had some basis to believe the laws didn't apply to them?
Blaine is a unique town, it's the far northwest corner of the country, where the frontier mentality still persists. The drug problem at the school is so bad, that it includes the the teachers and the administration. A man that used to work with my husband, once stood up at a PTA meeting and told everyone that they weren't going to solve the drug problem with the kids as long as the teachers and the parents were using drugs.
He had attended parties where the teachers and parents did drugs together.
That's the way I remember school. Ah, memories.
The Morning News is one of the worst papers in the USA. Darn near as bad as the Atlanta Urinal Constipation, but not quite. I get no national news in depth from the Savannah paper, but lots of dumb stuff like local bake sales for some cause or another. Yuk!
Ah, small towns! I've been in a similar place before....
I can't argue with that...and about the only thing worse than the paper is their website. Although, come to think of it, maybe the website is better because it doesn't create clutter...
