The vicissitudes of gay life, notably the culture of promiscuity, are alternately ascribed to the legacy of oppression (and therefore not our fault) and celebrated as a form of 'liberation'.

This piece, originally published in The Spectator, is reprinted in the new issue of First Things. There Father Richard John Neuhaus comments on its insights (like the point above) while questioning the extent to which the author really wants to be freed from the gay culture he so rightly deplores.

Hedonism. That is the be-all and end-all for these people. This article makes me sad for these people. While I go home tonight to my loving wife and sweet toddler, they will go home to despair and empty self-indulgence.

Unlike the ethnic and religious minorities with which we compare ourselves,

Well, there's the problem........homosexuality is a behavior, not a race or religion.

Homosexuals now have most everything they claimed they needed to be "free" yet are still miserable.

This is because of the inherently immoral and sinful nature of their behaviour.
The LORD God tells us what is right and wrong not politicians, lobby groups or "human rights" lawyers. Hence no matter how much they have law changed in their favour, they will remain miserable in sin.

Best for them to repent and change.

One of the problems with identity politics is that what is good for the group doesn't necessarily benefit the individuals in the group.

While gays enjoy public acceptance as never before, individuals are still miserable because the relationships they have forged are not natural....and somewhere very deep inside, they know it.

I had a friend that was gay some years ago.

He was obviously unhappy with his life.
We worked at the same company, had an occasional drink together, and generally had many of the same friends at work.

He came on to me one night. I told him in a friendly, but firm, manner that I was flattered but that I was a happily married man, in love with my wife, and couldn't/wouldn't entertain any notions of that manner.
We remained on speaking terms, if not friends, until I left that company and moved to a different job.

Years later I was talking to someone that used to be a mutual friend of ours and lo and behold my, flamingly, gay friend had a girlfriend!
I asked what had happened to bring THAT about.
Our friend said that she had asked him that and he said it all started with me. When he had come on to me and I said what I did it started him thinking. He had never had a commitment of that type with another man. He had totally expected me to let him give me a BJ and go happily, I guess, on his way. When I refused and explained why he started having second thoughts about his lifestyle.

Don't tell me homosexuals are born that way. It's a choice.

From the article:
gay this ... gay that... gay lifestyle .... gay something else.

These people are defining themselves by what they stick up their a$$es .... no wonder they are miserable.

They will never be happy because they will never face the facts and be honest about what it is to be "gay"- and the fact is it is unnatural and a perversion. To maintain it, one must constantly and consistently lie.

Homosexuality, as with any obsession, is idolatry.

That is the source of the emptiness.

While demanding equality, it stresses separateness...

Isn't this the First Commandment of liberalism?

The author has covered the homosexual facet of the left nicely.

Also, witness the collegiate mantra of "multiculturalism". American culture isn't worthy of all the others, so don't pollute yourselves by integrating with them.

Black, Republican and always deferred to in discussions of racial equality, Martin Luther King preached equality, not affirmative action. He called for all nationalities to live together in peace and harmony, not for white submission to Black Power.

And the eternal Champions of the Freedom of Speech, our illustrious news outlets and esteemed universities will literally react with violence and wartime treason in the face of speech and expression that disagrees with their progressive dogma.

The Left has become the very embodiment of hypocrisy.

Yes, self-destructive, abhorrent behavior is usually a sad scene. Homosexuality is a bad choice.
